its really odd though. I always kinda had a well meaning centrist feeling. but now there is this developmental feeling. It doesnt feel like i'm a dumb high schooler who thinks he knows everything anymore. I'm talking to these people all the time, my contempt for democrats and libertatians grows by the day

Well that's the thing, the centre in the US is to the right. If you are actually on the left, the entire political mainstream supports views that are pretty much again your own. Aint no mainstream party promoting nationalised healthcare or education, any of that very typical stuff.

I think that it is likely in the US that you get, broadly speaking, Democrat voters who actually support the Democrats, and Democrat voters who go for the lesser evil.

    Libertarianism is pretty awful, yeah.

the disconnect is people still clinging to post WW2 feelings. anti-left buzzwords associated with unions or socialized health care are always something like COMMUNIST or SOCIALIST in the face of these things being fairly normal in our world

    1. Yeah. Nurse practitioners are doctors; their degree just isn't the same kind as an MD.

    2. Christ, yes. 'nuff said.

    3. Yeah, they're pretty disgusting, and the fact that Apple doesn't give a fuck should be your biggest clue that their image as the benevolent hipsters of American tech is an affectation, for which I'm convinced you've got Steve Jobs, Secret Asshole, to thank.

    4. No idea.

    5. Yeah. Because the other option was a market-capitalist Republican whose "maverick" status was an affectation (there's that word again! it's like modern life is all about falsehoods or something) he took on so that he could be perceived as a DC outsider while still voting on party lines in ninety percent of cases.

    6. Blue Valentine. Dat soundtrack.

    7. Former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Mostly I want his hair, but also he looks so happy all the time.

Answer my questions, I will make my assessments, discuss answers. Be merry.

1.Should nurse practitioners be allowed to operate on their own, performing their regular duties without the supervision of a doctor, in America?

    2. Is Tebowing played out? I saw Tebow on the Pizza Hut website.

    3. Are you aware of the conditions at Foxcon?

    4.?Goon/Goblin¿

    5. Would you still have voted for Obama knowing what you know now?

    6. Fave Ryan Gosling film?

    7. Which Japanese Man Would You Be If Given The Choice?

    1. Like an APN? Yes, they are wonderful.
    2. Tebowing was never in and has always been annoying, something that is never in can never be out.
    3. yes, this is what happens when it is more profitable to employ outside your country than it is inside your country. We find the working conditions ghastly because in America we'd never put up with that shit, so he took it somewhere that it is common place. I blame Reagan.
    4. Goon of course
    5. Especially knowing what I know now. I'd like to fire the house and senate though.
    6. Ides of March was excellent, but I support him in any film he chooses to do marvelously.
    7. Brolly because his power is maximum

in washington a nurse practitioner needs 250 hours of clinical practice every year just to keep his or her license, and are required to go through more continuing education than a doctor is in order to keep their prescriptive authority

and, in a systematic review of patient outcomes from 1990-2008, nurse practitioners in Washington performed as well or better than physicians in all categories:

Speaking at a town hall-style event at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, Newt Gingrich mocked the Obama Administration's promotion of smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles.

"Let me start from a simple premise that Oklahomans will understand: you cannot put a gun rack in a Volt," Gingrich said.

    Hey man

people are allowed to set up reiki and chiropractic and homeopathy practices

a nurse is gonna get folks better care than those places

Also general physicians have limits on their effectiveness and are encouraged to refer patients to specialists, why not just set up a similar system? A nurse can perform most of the day-to-day functions of a normal family doctor.

okay, related question to the nurse practitioner stuff.

what do we do about the problem that many more people need services than there are qualified people to deliver them?

like, we need lots of doctors, but not enough people seem to be getting MDs, so now we're hyping up stuff like nurse practitioner and physician assistant. my close friend is in physician assistant school, and the very notion that someone could consider his training to be on par with a real doctor is terrifying.

similarly, we need therapists, but psychiatrists are mostly medicine-prescribers with less therapy training than they once had, and there aren't enough psychologists around. as a result, we now have various master's level therapist roles. i run into some of them at my externship, and man, it's tragically depressing to see how superficial of an education they gain in most topics, and can then go out there and say they're qualified therapists.

i imagine similar stuff is happening in most high-education-required fields? less-education roles pop up, initially to be support, but as the demand grows higher their role becomes progressively more and more like the more-educated counterpart? that doesn't seem ideal, so what do we do?
