Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

During this vassal thing, how do we communicate to each other? Do I need a mike of some sort?
Wrong? How so?
They're stilling winning tournies, in fact, I think they've won more major tournies than Blood Angels...
Buy my 40k shit.
who said anything about winning tournaments?
You can use the chat client in-game, but it's way easier to use skype/ventrilo/teamspeak.
Most armies could use a new book but don't need one.
I said they were working fine as-is and you said I was wrong. The fact that the codex can win at that level means it's not a codex problem. There's a reason why Tau never win shit.

SJ, you're going full Rainman on me.

sure would be nice
I can agree with that.
Now let's go to the casino.

So I need a mike then? And I also need to learn how to use ventrilo/skype/teamspeak? I'm fighting an uphill battle here.
You don't NEED one, but it makes life easier. I could always just talk and you could use the chat box function.
Skype is the easiest to use, definitely. I like Ventrilo because it has the least invasive interface though.
Did you ever play shadow of the horned rat back in the day? Holy shit the squig rider things were fucking BROOTAL man.

If you want me to come whisper sweet nothings in your ear, just say so.

defrollas are strength 10. strength 10. Definitely strength10. I need a zzap gun. A zzap gun would be nice. I think I want a zzap gun. 16% chance to work. 16 percent. One out of six.
"Look at that subtle off-white coloring, the tasteful thickness of it... Oh my God, it even has a watermark."
I can definitely imagine SJ playing like this.
Oh boy, oh boy.
*Gets hit with a flamer template*
HOT FIRE BURNS BOYZ HOT FIRE BURNS BOYZ

How many shots does a rapid fire lasgun shoot: "about a thousand"
"Look at that subtle off-white coloring, the tasteful thickness of it... Oh my God, it even has a watermark."
How many points is a Land Raider? "About a thousand."
*Scribbling furiously in his notebook* Today Nax caused me a serious injury. He caused two penetrating hits on my Land Raider and destroyed both lascannons.
"Why don't you use any land speeders?" "Too dangerous. Flying's too dangerous. Nope. Can't fly. Oh boy."

I always enjoy reading about games, and the vassal screen shot function makes for nice turn overviews.
To start, I have never ever owned a loyalist Marine force. Brainstorming on his awesome Deathwatch collaboration project got me to put together a silly Vanguard Veteran squad.
Of course, then I saw the awesome Drop Pod/Tactical Squad boxes.
All of which lead to this silly (but Fluffy) 1250 pt list.
2x 10-man Tactical Squad- Missile Launcher, Meltagun, Power Weapon, Drop Pod (235 each)
10- man Sternguard Squad- 2x Heavy Bolter, Drop Pod (260)
5-man Vanguard Squad- Jump Packs, 3x Power Weapon, 3x Plasma Pistol, 2x Pair of Lightning Claws (310)
EDIT: I should note that this is a Deathwatch list... because I'm nothing if not a follower.
Tennessee Booth- Huckster (Deadlands Reloaded)
Ulvein- Drow Executioner (4E WLD)
With an Assault Cannon
I've won games solely based on the fact that my opponent's default reaction to a drop pod list is to just "go all into reserves"
That's fine with me. You better come in in a big chunk or i'm gonna have all objectives gotten or contested before you even start. Also, with my pods in reserve i can usually react way better to his forces coming in.
"Look at that subtle off-white coloring, the tasteful thickness of it... Oh my God, it even has a watermark."
Because it will be fluffy and look rad as fuck.
I don't know if people are being serious, but people are really bitching about the age of the ork book? I had a serious moment of 'wholly shit, did I fall back into 2005 somehow? If so, where's my hair and hot foreign girlfriend?'
And a hot plate!

This is why I burned out on Vassal. My fault or not (which it might entirely have been), Vassal games tended to take for got damn ever.
Also, Orks do need a new book. A bad ass book, with awesome looted shit and better rules without the suck.
My games against my friends who know how to play... 2 hours for 2k.

Edit: I do always want to keep trying Vassal, maybe I'll install it again and give it a shot.
Like just using D6 instead of the save feature for single saves and such

Create the army you want in the tray. Go to file - > Begin logfile. Enter whatever comment and press ok. Go to your tray and select everything. Ctrl+c to copy them. Go to file->end logfile. Make sure it saves. Delete everything from your try. Go to file -> Load continuation. Load whatever you saved it as .vlog. Underneath file there will be an arrow undo button and then a pause/play button. hit the pause/play button. everything should reappear in your tray.

Oh, obviously!
The more you learn before we start the more actual gaming we can get in.
I'll even be nice and put my kiddie gloves on!
Do you want to start at 1k just to get accustomed to the mechanics or dive right into 2k?
