Khoo is Dr. Seuss. He's like the highlander, running around chopping heads off to absorb powers. He took Khoo's head and assumed his identity.

I was trying to count how many games I had. I estimated just over 100.

Then I realized that this would include Steam games, and I have over 200 of those alone.

Khoo I'm sorry but I ruined your survey.

  • CasualCasual IT'S CRIME TIME MOTHAFUCKAS WE OUTRegistered User regular
Yeah with steam and all putting the top end of peoples games collection estimates at 200 is setting the bar mighty low, I know people in my gaming circle who have more than double that number on steam alone.

Oh hell, I didn't think to include Steam games!

I was also thrown off by the answers not having 0-1 choices since I do go out to the movies and buy games now and again but they in no way even out to 12 per year. I wasn't sure if I should answer none because most months I don't buy games/movies or 1-3 because some months I do.

happy to help our absentee parents, but one question the answers did not fit my response. it was 'how often do you buy games', there was no option for once every few months it was either once a month, or none at all.

even when I used adblock, I'd always make an exception for the entire PA website

I spend a lot of time here, for one, and feel a certain level of faith for the Church of Khoo

and they tend to recommend good games

  • FishmanFishman scientia potentia est Robot ProvocateurRegistered User regular
I clicked 200+ without really thinking about it. But it's not really true unless I count back an entire history stretching back to Marble Madness on the Amiga 500, which seems a bit distorted. I only have about 70 games on Steam, of which only about half are installed and/or I have any intention of playing, a couple dozen 360 titles, which is my main gaming console and really the only one of the current generation that gets any use (I have a Wii I haven't plugged in in almost a year, and a cupboard full of old consoles I intend to play with on odd occasions, but I never have the time to revisit).

But yeah, once you count up all the old titles... 2 original xboxes, a PS2, Gamecube, DS, N64, Dreamcast, GBA, NES, and a cupboard full of old PC games, shareware titles, 3 copies of Mechwarrior 2 depending on which video graphics card I had just bought and a few old Amiga titles... it adds up.

I guess the moral is, I play games, and show no sign of stopping soon, even if I am slowing down.

Maybe we just need an honor system tip jar for those that ad block but also want to support PA. Hmm. Good feedback all around though.

If it included, say, a "suggested amount" that was roughly what you make off adviews for one user per year that would be good.

Being too forward with estimated advertising offset amounts like that might be off-putting to actual advertisers.

I used to. Animated ads would sometimes cause my computer to slow to a crawl, but only on PA. A few of those and I lost patience, and set adblock for PA.
Doesn't seem to be the case at the moment though, so ads are back on.

There are different kinds. I only know about PPC (Pay Per Click) and CPM (Cost Per Mille [thousand, usually views of the ad]). PA probably does CPM since they have the traffic for it. CPM is usually priced by the amount of traffic a site gets, and people who run adblock but still show as traffic throw those numbers off. It can be a problem on a site like PA where most people know about AdBlock.

PPC ads is the reason I get angry when I accidentally click ads for companies I don't want to support (like when the screen is frozen and I'm being super impatient by clicking everywhere).

No, we don't get paid per click. it's just straight-up display. But clicking is always nice because those folks supported us, and we like those games. :)

Anyway, it appears we hit the cell limit of Google SS, hence the errors. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I completely understand that advertising revenue is what allows half of the net to run. No disagreement there, and I'm inclined to allow them for that reason.

The problem with ads is that the bad ones ruin it for everybody else. Ads that becomes a vector for a trojan, or create a terribly annoying pop-up, or has loud sounds are all ads I hate. This leads to me installing adblock-plus on all my friends and family's computers, because it reduces the number of viruses and problems they have by orders of magnitudes, which means happy them, happy me.

That down side to that is while I whitelist sites I want to support (e.g. PA), my friends/family do not know how to do this, and quite frankly do not care how to do it. They just want the web to work whenever they snap their fingers. However, these people also generally are not the ones visiting PA, so not much if any loss there.

I don't think I would advocate forum perks for money. We're not SA.

I know, and I think a lot of us know, that the only ads on the site are ones for games the crew has vetted. It's even lead me to a few games. I'm interested in how many people taking the survey didn't know that, though. Heck, I have no clue how I even know. Probably from reading the forums.
