So apparently the way it works is that on the dreadnought's turn, I get to decide whether to retreat the dreadnought or shoot with it. The ancients can still shoot the dreadnought until the dreadnought's next turn if I decide to retreat it. So I'm going to shoot with my interceptors first and see whether or not the question is moot.

Someone's got to deal with the obviously power-mad Mechanema! The Hydrans have no fleet, they've subverted the Union, the Directorate has no access, and that leaves you and us! The only answer is to have a treaty so we can strip the flank by you and take out the GCDS, and when I die in a blaze of glory you can pick up the pieces!
I can already tell I'm going to love the alliances in this game.
