I'm not about to sit here and argue the merits of reddit, but I will say I think that claiming it's just awful is a generalization and inaccurate
reddit is like the internet in a microcosm. of course there's going to be shitheads. the average user who posts in the default subreddits all new users are subscribed to is barely better than a youtube commenter. stupid shit gets voted up because it appeals to the lowest common denominator
but there's also intelligent people who aren't bigots on there. they post interesting, insightful material. places like r/DepthHub gather quality submissions and discussions, and r/culturalstudies and r/anthropology show me articles related to shit I like to read about. r/fitness, r/frugal, and r/simpleliving have been helpful resources in the past. subreddits like r/assistance and r/Random_Acts_Of_Pizza exist to help people and send them pizza
so when it has a huge segmented userbase like that, it's kind of silly to say the whole thing is awful
but whatever, youtubes. new Cronenberg movie, based on a Don DeLillo novel
