    Game is definitely installing off the disc, but the speed is still, to put it mildly, shit.

    Disc drive worked fine with Portal a week ago, and has been reasonable in general. Disc isn't scratched. But the current estimate is seventeen hours at 160 kb/s.

    Any ideas what's going on? Tech support didn't do much good.

    Move the mouse over the percentage. Should show the estimated time.

    And my speed just went up. Maybe a disc problem. I hope.

    Ah, see, mine just says "preparing" and has for an hour. So maybe something is up.

    Edit: OK, after clicking "stop download" it gave me a prompt where I canceled the stop and now it's ACTUALLY downloading. Smart.
