The gun is pretty ridiculous. He's wearing the "greatest weapon in the universe" on his right hand, but he's going to threaten someone with his glock?

Also, assuming that's not Stewart, that's another Lantern from earth who's a dude. Jordan, Rayner, Stewart, Gardner, Scott ... why has there never been a female GL from earth? Every female GL I've ever seen has been an alien with some bizarre red skin, or pointy ears, or antennae, etc, etc.

  • RansRans Registered User regular
Jade was a GL briefly, twice. Green skin, but still human, at least.

the mystery GL being on the cover of #0 probably means we won't get the updated new 52 backstory on the GL mythos, like how Hal's history gets condensed down to 5 years. Specifically I was looking for refinements on the major plot points of Hal's life pre-Rebirth: if the GL/GA days still happened (has Ollie been around for 5 years? I didn't pick up any of the new GA), Emerald Twilight/Parallax stuff, if he died during Final Night, if he spent time as Spectre, and how, if any of that changed, it affects Rebirth.

Everything since Rebirth seems to be perfectly intact.

This reminds me of something that popped up in Batman Annual #1. In it there is a mention that only 6 years ago Bruce Wayne just returned from his travels or whatever, which is the origin for Bruce going to train and then come back and be Batman, as it specifically mentions how he's out of the loop in terms of the family business so it wasn't the Knightfall story. But that kind of goes against the idea that he was operating as Batman years before Superman showed up, and also seems to really make Bruce a lot younger than he is.

And Voodoo is the 4th cancelled book, DC hates women something something.

edit: it seems they really are keeping the "punch through #1 cover" thing, at least they should photoshop in a #0 in the corners.

There's also Anya Savenlovich, technically. Female Earth lanterns tend to turn up a fair bit in alternate continuities/Earths: The Tangent Green Lantern, two different female LSH lanterns, various elseworlds...

They keep on saying these are 'promo art'. Guess they haven't nailed down the layout for the other cover gubbins yet.

CBR offers a translation for the Arabic on the new GL's arm:

But perhaps most revealing is a clear look at the Arabic tattoo on the new Lantern's arm, الشجاعة. Pronounced "al-shaja-ah," the word roughly translates as "courage." The root, شجاع, means "brave" with different variations translating as valor, guts, heroism, spirit -- even fearless. An appropriate choice of ink for a Green Lantern.

    Here.

So, my guess is we're looking at the new version of The Tattooed Man?

Printing Voodoo was hating women. This? This is a mercy.

That said, I feel bad for @Solar his pet book got cancelled.

So the final tally for the wave 3 cancellations are: Resurrection Man, Captain Atom, Voodoo, and Justice League International.

I do love DnA, but Resurrection Man was kind of going nowhere. JLI started out so promising, and then just went self destructive so quickly. Never read the other two, so not sure there.

    ----

Justice League 0 is an all Shazam issue (makes sense since the entire first arc was effectively the 0 issue.), so that should be an interesting read.

The Bat Books almost all look important in 0 Month. Batman is going to clarify the Batman timeline apparently (when he started and what not). Red Hood is going to explain how Jason came back to life (so he DID die), Batgirl is going to explain how she can walk again, Nightwing is going to clarify his timeline (which should help explain some stuff with Titans.)

Scott Lobdell is writing Superman, Rocafort on art. So I guess their first issue will have Lois in a bikini wanting to sex anyone at the Daily Planet?

And it seems like they're going to really make Bizarro extreme, totally does the Dew and doesn't smile in photos, yo:
The idea of an insane Superman should be the most horrifying thing anyone of us can imagine, for example, but when that person winds up being a cute and cuddly Bizarro, it takes the villain out of super villain.

    We plan to change that.

I'm disappointed that Resurrection Man is being canceled, but I understand the decision. Luckily, Dial H appears poised to fill the "different superpowers every issue" slot that I enjoy so much.

From that same Bleeding Cool quote:
As far as comparing Superman to the other books, I would say apples and oranges — if those apples and oranges had a bright red “S” on their chests!
...when I finished the plot for the first issue I gasped!

Scott Lobdell is a teenage girl and I do not want him writing Superman.

Didn't they just hand Superman to Giffen not too long ago? That's a crazy turnover rate.

Not only that, Giffen and Jurgens were told they had a long run to plan for, and that the only reason they were taking up a Helspont story first was because DC asked and they would have time to tell their stories right after that.

But.... why does he have to carry on that extra baggage?

I guess the New GL's tatoo means
"Alshujaa’a. That’s the Arabic tattoo on the new Green Lantern’s arm, appearing in Green Lantern #0. Just about. And yes, according to Google Translate, it means “Courage, Bravery, Valor, Guts, Prowess and Spunk”"

Yes, we really need a serious take on a character named Bizarro.

I don't think there's any reason you can't do Bizarro as a creepy character. It worked alright in Alex Ross and Jim Krueger's Justice, and Matt Wagner's Trinity. And there's stuff like this picture by John Cassaday, that make him look menacing.

    gfbYm.png

That said, I have a feeling that what Lobdell thinks of as "horrifying," will undoubtedly come across as trying way too hard.

So Keith Giffen's doing the #0 issue of Blue Beetle ... and exploring where the scarab was before Jaime got it. Dare we hope for some Ted Kord?

One of the better creations in recent memory in my humble opinion.

  • BlankzillaBlankzilla We were the best, Richard No matter what they sayRegistered User regular
    Yeah like

it is definitely military-influenced, which is cool cause(assuming it is him) Avenger rocks guns and whatnot

but it is still comic-booky and has a bit of sci-fi flair that keeps it from just being badass military guy 43

The dual shotgun thing (and the color) make me think it's Crimson Avenger, since he originally was all about the two guns.

Also, DC cast him as the "first superhero" in the previous universe , so maybe it fits that he was around (in this universe) the same time as the Trinity?

He could just as easily be a random henchman.

But there isn't much you can do with a name and theme like the Crimson Avenger's, neither of which distinguish the character.

I suppose if that's E2's Crimson Avenger, it'll do as a modern update for now. Mind you, Pandora seems to be unofficially adopting that role at least visually for the main DCnU Earth.
