It means that the Dark Knight did very well and the thought "The Dark Knight did well because it was a beloved franchise, well marketed and written directed and acted well" is to long so they just go with "TDK did well because it was DARK and dark is in!"
Of course Iron Man did well too but was to cheery.
If it had been as dark as TDK obviously it would have been an even bigger hit.
