There is no real cape in the costume. The cape is entirely CGI in the movie. The cape in that shot is photoshopped in. It's him walking out of a trailer. It's not an actual promo shot.
yeah okay and if this is 1950's superman then not caring about trends might apply here
if this is a super man born any time in the last 30 years he is not wearing trunks outside his pants because they would have never even been a thing he saw in his lifetime
He shouldn't wear jeans and a t-shirt all the time, but I think it is a neat idea, and I guess it happened in the new52 Morrison book, right? The one with Space Mummy and the Robot Cowboys. Amazing band name.

i love the super early superman stuff, with him only being able to jump really far and tanks and stuff still hurting him
he is sort of a super-worker thing and i think the overalls would be great for that

I am not going to lie
I don't really like any of those costumes except a couple
most of them aren't bad, and some are even good
but none of them are as good as Supes classic costume

i don't like the majority of them either
but if you remove the nostalgia/familiarity/whatever we all attach to a lot of classic costumes, especially those with underpants worn over pants, i think there is room more improvement.
The commentators seem to really really dig the three-person shot with Superman, Supergirl and Superboy but that abstract S-logo is a weakness for me, not a strength
firstly because a lot of costumes are obviously one full piece yet they don't have a place where a person would actually be able to get into damn thing. yeah, sure, it may look cool to be one uninterrupted piece but there's no way you're putting it on by yourself.
secondly, it breaks up the lines, allows you to change the colors or patterns, if you like
also you can keep like your cell phone and wallet in there

I am a fan of costumes designed around practicality
Everything in a custom designed superhero outfit should have an explicit, in-universe, purpose
So I am okay with trunks Superman if he has a reason to wear the trunks
Generally, this means I am not okay with trunks Superman, because I don't know why he would style himself after an old fashioned carnival strongman

if he stopped a building from falling on my the story I told would always end with "but man his red underpants sure looked silly"
I really liked Enchanted
and she was the only good thing in the horrible shitpile that was Night at the Museum 2
oh yeah of course
his blue tights and the giant S on his chest and the billowing red cape
those are all super-serious garments
but as soon as you put on red trunks as well then it all falls apart
Consult your doctor.
pretty much
I would certainly hope superman would be willing to make at least the smallest effort possible to not look like a clown
let me also say I only really care about this for live action movie super-man
cartoon and comic super man can do whatever the fuck he wants
you hear me Kwoaru?!?
ridiculous
This might technically be a belt
But really he looks too much like Eradicator Superman
it's art, whatever
but to say he looks less silly
as if without the trunks, he would appear solemn and serious to the eye
that is
just
what
look, if you woke up and had super powers, and decided to fight crime
and you tell me you would design a costume with your undies on the outside
I'm going to call you a liar
less silly is not the same as serious
there are degrees of silly looking
and underpants on the outside is a huge degree of silly
but the lack of bright red underpants is not one of the problems
and that I'd go out and fight crime in it
shit that's probably what I would do all day long
I am not even lying
that is exactly what I would do
and I would be proud
also: what is up with the pose in that shot
yeah he looks like he just realized the suit is too small and its hunching him over or something

I am fine with that
trunks don't look silly
dated maybe, but not silly
and Superman is all about not caring about trends

I can't find the Man of Style thing with the winners and everything, but here are the finalists I think

he already wears tights and a cape
clearly modern fashion is not his thing
besides he wears that because it is kryptonian clothing
and kryptonians probably would think we dress silly as well
She was really good in Sunshine Cleaning
holy shit I love overalls superman
