Same reason people say they got gypped or that someone welshed on a bet or that they want someone to be frank with them and so on. Nobody really thinks about where words come from.

I know mine carried points, but they expired after a maybe an hour. I'd guess yours was the same, you just didn't see it until they'd already expired.
