Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
I'm getting married at the end of May. It will be a fairly formal wedding (I'm in a ballgown, he's in a tux) although we're normally laid back, casual people (the formality of the wedding sort of took control). To change it up a bit, I want to go lighthearted with the music. We will be using a string trio for the ceremony and the bridesmaids will be walking down to "Sheep May Safely Graze" by Bach and our walking away music is "Yellow" by Coldplay
I'm completely stumped on what I want to walk down the aisle to. I personally don't care for classical music (ex: Pachelbel's Canon or The Four Seasons) and I would rather go for something a little more modern. I actually wouldn't mind something video game related as long as it's romantic/hopeful but I don't want exclusively video game suggestions. If it was a perfect world, I would absolutely walk down to the end credits of The Wind Waker (which could happen but I'm doubtful)
Also, please no Wagner suggestions. It would not go over well with my family
Funnily enough, my fiance suggested that as well (he has the Vitamin String Quartet's version of it)
As much as I love a good laugh, I don't really want to be portrayed as an evil person (plus I'll laugh the whole way and it'll ruin the romantic, mellow sound I want)
Okay, but for some serious suggestions, what kind of bands/groups/solo artists you guys both like? Find the most "ballad" like song and youtube it, guarantee you'll find something good.
I know it's fun to post joke songs but I'd appreciate some serious suggestions. I've been trying to wrack my brain for something suitable but it's been hard (same with first dance songs)

I like alternative music (Muse, Foster the People, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.) and I'm totally open to using an alt song as long as it can be transformed by a string trio. As for my fiance, he likes the same stuff but it's really my choice. I've been searching all day on Youtube but I've come here in case I've missed something that could be really good
Tox, I'll take more of a listen to the Princess Bride soundtrack
My wife and I walked down to the ending theme from Final Fantasy, specifically the version from 8. With the size of our church and wedding party it timed out pretty well where it was her turn to walk right as it hit the part with music picked up.
If you don't pay much attention to the lyrics, I think this could be a really nice building one...its already pretty heavy on strings, its quite energetic and builds up fairly well.
Of the bands that you mentioned liking, I don't know that its a good aisle song, but for a first dance I think Green Eyes by Coldplay could be a good one
My husband and I used the Crono/Marle theme from CronoTrigger, which was nice because it could be played by the pianist and all the older family just thought it was some nice music and all the gamer nerds were like "Is that... seriously? You guys are dorks!"
"At first he thought it might be a natural occurrence - maybe a rabbit. But upon closer inspection, it was clear a knife had been used. And rabbits don't carry knives."
I walked down the aisle to Bridge over troubled water - verse 3. I love that song, brings out the total romantic in me, and sums up what my husband means to me. youtube.com/watch?v=H_a46WJ1viA

If you have a friend/someone in the wedding that can do it, you can port just about any of your favorite video game songs over to music for a trio: but you have to have someone that knows how and is willing. You could also do just about anything romantic from a Disney movie, if you're as into those as I am/was.
Also, I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim, but the Elder Scrolls games seem to have some really good music, some of which would fit well, I think.
My sister used the Rebel Fanfare from Star Wars (Music at the end of A New Hope). I love my sister.
My wife and I used the Throne Room song for our recessional, as opposed to our processional. It worked out pretty well. (throne room scene with the awarding of the medals).

I was going to come in and post this, but my wife got here first.
Since you mentioned songs to dance to as well, I always thought this would be a lovely song to dance to at a wedding and am hoping to make it happen when I get married.
This is from How to Train Your Dragon, one of my favorites!
I'm going to try and find out if they can work with this. That ranks really high up there (doesn't hurt that I loved the movie)
I'm looking for more first dance songs as well (done by a DJ). Want it to be slow, maybe more modern and relatively short (3 1/2 min or less). Don't want to go video game themed on this
Thank you for all of your suggestions so far. I really appreciate it

That whole soundtrack is pretty good

Best part was hearing a good chunk of people singing the lyrics.

they also considered the beginning of Melancholy Hill by the Gorillaz
Me, I'm thinking of J.S. Bach's Prelude from his cello concertos.
You have to fight through some bad days, to earn the best days of your life.
That'd be my choice. Gigantic is a wedding song for people who hate wedding songs.

I got married yesterday, and my wife walked to this. It was a big hit with the guests, kept it hush hush so it was a bit of a surprise.
Something like this was, for us at least, a good way to break up the rigidity that's kind of inherent to the setting.
This one feels more appropriate, but also more generic.
This is a nice one that builds momentum - but might get too "big" at some points.
More classical approach -if you have a hired piano player:

This is very pretty, and has a decent chance of resonating with the nerd crew:
Not sure if this is an appropriate tone for you, but perhaps worth a shot:
