also is your shield straight up breaking, or are you just straight taking damage
if it's the first, upgrade your shield and stop going so deep until you do, if it's the second, then it is lag or a communication problem
good is kinda subjective based on what role you want to fill and what enemies you will be fighting

the best way to compensate is to shield earlier, and more often
blocking and dodging is about 90% of this game
I don't care how badass your sword or gun or bomb is

Yes, this. This morning for some reason on my wife's comp the game lagged a tiny bit and I was getting my ass handed to me on tier 1 despite having 4star gear. That and I haven't played in awhile so I'm pretty rusty and wasn't that good to begin with.

Yeah, these I do ok, I think I just need to choose which Arcade I run more carefully.
The later levels of any tier have a better crown reward, and playing with more people gives you a straight crown boost to offset the sharing of drops. If you play levels packed with enemies - like arena or scarlet fortress - and you're able to clear challenge areas okay, you should have something approaching 100 CE per run. You need to do this less at higher tiers.
