As it turns out, the noise by-law in the town I live in applies 24 hours a day and covers this sort of thing. It's not eviction worthy, but it's a $50 to $1000 fine if he attempts that nonsense again.

And you're sure he's the unreasonable one? You're proposing a lot of middle school solutions here and getting awfully worked up over imaginary slights.

OP does seem unreasonable. "Yo dawg can you knock it off, trying to sleep over here" would've probably been better than "Enough".

It's pretty hard to be reasonable when you've not had any fucking sleep because some asshole can't be bothered to respect your only chance of the day to do so. I'm just saying.

If you've got nothing but judgment you're really not being useful. Say something helpful or don't post.

He should honestly cover his ass because being an asshole is going to bite him in it when he expects his roommate to leave and he doesn't and then plays trumpet from 9:00 am to 9:00pm before heading to civil court for eviction proceedings, whilst leaving curry/onion powder all over the doorknobs and counter-tops.

I had a roommate that caused me a lot of trouble and grief over a very similar situation except he didn't passive/aggressively dislike my girlfriend at the time but instead was constantly hitting on her and just being an overall big creep.

The guy would constantly steal my liquor and other things, leave me like $2 for a bottle of whiskey he put back. Later I found out he was a recovering alcoholic, because housing thought it'd be a great idea to not let me know any of that when they shoved him into the apartment with a month of school left.

    I digress.

It sounds like the OP is being ridiculous about some of this. Ceres, I agree but I think the roommates response might've been retaliation from the other day during the nap?

And I'm confused, I thought he was moving out within the week, but now he has the potential to drag this out for a month?

My biggest advice is don't make any rash decisions. I know this guy is already under your skin, but he's going to push every button you have until he has to leave. If nothing else just ignore it, acknowledging it just enabling him.

I dont think your overreacting but i think more communication would definitely help. When i was in college i had a roommate who made his own music with various instruments and drum machines, he also had insomnia which would result in music "creating" at 3-5am sometimes. At first it would bug me to all hell but in the end i would just talk to him about what times he would play and we agreed on a better schedule for things, he also informed me of things i did that kept him awake or annoyed him at different times (playing games loudly, blasting music in the morning) and i had to realize i was wrong at some points to. Who knows maybe thats the case with you guys as well?

Talk it out, save yourself the trouble.

Not interested in your opinion. I've been in a number of similar situations, and my point is that making a post that does nothing but judge the exact wording used by a very fucking tired person is useless, counterproductive, and don't do it. That was a mod post, not a "my thoughts on the matter at hand" post.

Update: Roommate left with the swiftness of a jinn, leaving behind the following:

1x Motivational poster (8.5x11 black and white printout taped to the wall)
    2x dirty pairs of underwear,
    2x dirty dishes
4x foil baking trays (one used and dirty, three still in package)
    1x empty tangerine box
1x potato, black and wet on bottom, smelled of onion
1x package of cheap oriental ramen
2x keys (one for apartment building, one for our apartment)
1x dirty floor that had never been swept
3x dirty shelves that had never been cleaned
    1x poppy, covered in dust
    500 exp

As a precaution, I burned seven white hairs from the tail of a cat as a means to vacate the presence of any jinns possessing the room (No cat was harmed in this process, just brushed). Pretty sure we'll never see him again.

A poppy? Was he making poppy extract or something?

    I misread it as.. yea..

I thought "wow, that potato isn't so bad then..." before I realized what it actually said.
