Yeah wasn't there a big thing relatively recently about him making the position of Dalai Lama no longer the highest/sole authority in tibet?

I just didn't want to engage twenty sided because he is a super goose

Only because the Chinese occupation ousted him and won't let him back in, so this is the only real way to win support for his cause while attempting to maintain some kind of religious orthodoxy.

The Catholic Church also said they were super sorry about the thing with Galileo. It didn't stop them from diddling choir boys though.

Finally saw episode 3, and I had my own revalation

    Probably Amon Theory:
Seriously, I'm thinking I figured him out:
He got his anti bending powers from Ko, the face stealer.

Nah, that doesn't have quite the right ring to it. I have several working hypotheses:

    1) There really are spirits that think the Avatar is not an adequate solution or spirits which have an ulterior motive in backing Amon. Amon has a lot to gain by acting as though there's a consensus. And the average layperson doesn't really imagine that the spirit world might be comprised of individuals with different opinions, motivations and levels of altruism. (While Koh is a self-serving spirit, it isn't necessarily him. And frankly, that'd be just a little too convenient and easy.)

    2) I'm also willing to consider that Amon is completely full of shit and may have worked out some kind of scientific understanding which connects this whole Chi-thing to Bending. That is, he is just able to wound Benders in some very specific way using Chi blocking.

    3) Another hypothesis may be that he really is a Bender and that Spirit Bending isn't a talent that's limited to the Avatar himself. (This has the benefit of making Amon come off as a rather unscrupulous hypocrite.)

Yeah, I'm getting pretty sick of the inane deflections and insults. Thanks very much. If you want to engage with me on a rational basis, go ahead. If the topic makes you uncomfortable and you don't want to talk about it, fine. But don't for second pretend that your shit is legitimate because you can act horrified or shocked to an appropriate level of decorum.

Hmmm, actual evil spirits in Korra would be pretty cool I think. The more alien and capricious they are, the better.

Koh was a pretty cool example of that. He steals faces? Why? Because that's what he does. It's like a spirit thing man.

    Fun fact Skull Man

You don't actually win arguments by being the biggest silly goose.

Energy Bending didn't need to be some twist at the end, some secret. They choose that route that and having it come out of nowhere* was unsatisfying to me. I'm not attacking anybody for disagreeing with me so tell me why do think you need to attack me?

And yes I've read the previous arguments before I even posted. They did not sway me.

*Having pictures of a Lion Turtle is only foreshadowing that there is a Lion Turtle in the world. It is not foreshadowing of the part it will play or the things it can do. Those are the things that come out of nowhere.

nah I win arguments by being smarter than you and arguing my points better

    Nah.

You just scream anyone who disagrees with you down and condescend to them.

Seriously man, I didn't enjoy that part of the series. I am not arguing that you are wrong to enjoy it. I am not arguing that it is not in keeping with the themes or morals of the series.

So why do you care so much?

I was under the impression that Guru Pathik was the human incarnation of some spirit

I guess he could be but I don't think they implied it.

He called himself a spiritual brother to the Air Benders.

I pretty much like to use Occam's Razor with brutal economy on all forms of speculation ever.

So Pathik is not a spirit and he was only being metaphorical about being a spiritual brother to the Air Benders (i.e. he admires and relates to their culture and philosophy). Until evidence to the contrary pops up to collapse the waveform, this model will remain in place.

On the whole Lion Turtle thing and the ending of Airbender. It could've been handled better. I agree with that.

On the other hand, I've lowered my expectations to the point that I can enjoy the ending for what it is. TLA was on a budget guys.

Personally, I'm not sure I entirely believed Azula's breakdown. It was too fast and too convenient. I somehow doubt that not bonding with daddy over genocide would really make her that crazy.

Yes, because in the 2,000 years of the Catholic Church that's all they've accomplished. *I am eye rolling so hard right now*

If you're looking to see how flexible a religion institution can be, even a monastic order, it really changes based on location and leadership. Some Buddist Monks were very chill and meditated a lot on inner peace, others were sword chewing badass who killed men by the dozens. Some European Monks made nice books and bibles, others became warrior pirate doctors.
