I feel like korra's second encounter with the equalist barker is being misrepresented!
She didn't just walk up and manhandle a dude for no reason, she hoisted him high (with but one of her mighty arms, mind you) and smashed his table because he is the only tangible link she has to a group that kidnapped her friend
In the first episode she was knocked off balance by the idea of benders as oppressors, which is something she never encountered or considered while being stuck in avatar training camp, and she left him alone instead of unholstering her guns because she's not a dick
Oh, she certainly has more reason this time, but that doesn't justify her smashing his megaphone, scattering his posters, or threatening him with assault.
A big part of Korra's story is going to be learning when force should and should not be applied,I think.
Well yeah, it's barely a few minutes into the first episode when one of the white lotus tells her she needs to learn restraint.
It just occurred to me that part of learning the four elements is also about gaining a superior understanding of how the world works, through learning the different ways of thinking that go along with the bending styles.
Just as Aang had to learn to be more assertive and stubborn when necessary, as a side effect of his Earthbending training, Korra needs to learn to seek alternative, non-violent solutions, and not always jump head-first into things, both as part of her airbending training and in learning to deal with the real world.
The results give a wiser perspective, and in the case if Iroh can even help one learn powerful techniques that combine the tactics of the other elements.
I always thought it would be cool if Firebenders could study the way Toph "sees" and use that to sense people, by detecting their inner fire. That would be really Dragon-style (since they're all about fire=life).
Even before Aang was frozen in the ice he had travelled a fair bit. He had to go to a different temple to meet Appa, he went to Omashu and didn't he know about the giant sea serpent on Kiyoshi Island? Though he didn't know he was the Avatar until shortly before the Fire Nation attack, he did get to see at least some of the world even before he finished his airbender training.

Confession time: I had a weird fanfic moment back when ATLA was still on and got to thinking that a sequel series could incorporate "blending" which is like bending, but the result of being able to combine two bending styles. I figured cross-breeding between nations could result in it, but it wouldn't guarantee that a mixed child could necessarily do it, similar to how not all children of benders can bend. Anyway, I figured it would be something like how Iroh said he figured out lightning by watching waterbenders, so I tried to start figuring out what "blending" would result from the various combinations of two bendings. I never took it anywhere beyond just writing down some ideas, so it wasn't too fanfic-esque, but still NEEEERRRDDDD
Let me see if I can remember what I came up with
Fire+Water=Electricity (made sense to me because we were already told of it, and electricity can burn like fire, but flow like water, kinda)
Fire+Earth=Magma/Lava (this one was kind of an easy copout, but it still fit)
Fire+Air=Light (I was thinking something like fire/burning things makes light, and light travels through the air)
Water+Air= (don't remember what I had for this)
Water+Earth=Metal (this was before Toph was shown to be able to do it, and I think I had some kind of pseudo-reasoning that made sense at the time, but was probably pretty ridiculous)
Air+Earth=Sound (sound travels through air, like light, but sound is caused by vibrations and earth bending has vibrational elements to it, especially with Toph)
I meant techniques that are done by a regular bender, but using the tactics of another bending style.
Such as Iroh studying waterbending, which is all about going with the flow and redirecting offensive attacks, using them against your opponent, and then learning how to redirect lightning.

Such as an earth bender using the rocks to throw himself around and catch himself (by sanding his impact locations) to mimic the evade and dodge tactics of an air bender?
Waterbending flashing water to steam would suck all the heat out of a place, just like force-freezing it would add a significant amount of heat to the environment. This mimics the compression and expansion in commercial heat pumps and AC units. Compress or expand the air like a waterbender and you're a human air conditioner.

It kind of pisses me off that it got leaked in the first place
Way I understand it, some people got it off the Nick servers because it was uploaded early?
but this just discourages Nick from putting the episodes online at all, and I need them online because I cannot get up at 5 in the morning to catch a show

How about you just don't talk about leaked episodes.
How about that.

Fire + Earth = lava bending, etc.
That's not at all what I meant.

shut the thread down

Something like that.
Thank you.
