What are the rules/regulations on pictures used for the buttons? Do you have to use a personal photo/artwork or can you use a picture found on the internet in your design? Thanks

The "with taste" part is up for interpretation. Unless it's severely vulgar, you can put just about anything on a button. Just make something you like.

Don't use the template I made for The GIMP anymore. Purebuttons has changed their template, and I can't guarantee that your buttons will be correct.

How long does it usually take for ordered buttons to arrive? I haven't had time to put my design on the PureButtons template yet, and this is my first time buttoneering. Usually I like to learn how to do this stuff myself, but I'm wondering if I should ask someone to help so that I'll actually get my buttons in time. :s

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw the "60-day warning" on the previous page. :P

So in a flurry of GIMP manulipation I finished my button last night and submitted it. Got my proof today, saw there was something wrong. "Oh, I can fix this..." and realize I didn't save my raw file with all the layers. So I, in fact, cannot fix it.

Meh, guess I don't need to hide the lack of feet behind the DM screen anways...it'll just add to the randomness.

Now the waiting for the buttons begins.

So this year PureButtons is unwilling to ship buttons to Alaska any way other that UPS... for MORE than the cost of the buttons.

If anyone else is having this problem, http://justbuttons.com actually does free shipping, even to Alaska. There's no coupon, but free shipping > 15% off.

:-/ That sucks. Another option (although obviously more convoluted than just getting it shipped straight to you) is to ship them to one of us or your hotel.

Yeah, I could have done that, but since other custom button makers are doing sane shipping options, I didn't feel like giving PureButtons my business this year. Last year they accommodated, this year they won't... Pretty bad customer service if you ask me.

This may have been answered, but I'm going to ask anyway. Has anyone mailed their buttons to their hotel in the past? Just wondering if there were any issues.

My hubby and I are staying at the Paramount Hotel. As we are from Canada, we were thinking of just having our stuff shipped there instead of to our home to save on shipping cost. I think an earlier post said to place the order about a month before PAX and make a note on the order that we are attendees so Purebuttons knows what's up.

We are not that artistic so we are having a friend help us out with our button. I would hate to see him do a bunch of work on it, only to find out that we didn't get the buttons, or that they have had major issues in the past.

Thanks in advance for the advice on this one.

Call your hotel. Ask them the best way to have something mailed to them and held for you. Some hotels charge a service fee. So ask them what they need and what addresses you should use then contact the button maker and give them all the info.

    I meant that.

There have been quite a few cartoon penises, last year there was a cartoon penis version of the flying rainbow cat meme (sorry, don't know the real name) and a "hello my name is wingeddildo/wingedillidan" with a line art flying dick. Scantily or snugly clad female characters also show up regularly as well. However, anything that is pornographic is probably not going to be very popular, so I suggest keeping it PG13 rated or very cartoony at a minimum.

As for me, if someone wants to trade me a button that is pornographic (i.e. actual photo of wang, vag, or nip-visible boobs, or even a realistic cartoon of same), I probably won't trade with them because I would just throw that button away anyway - I'm certainly not going to display it on my bag at PAX, and I wouldn't want to have it on display on my button board at home either. Doesn't mean you can't have those things on your button, and I might be the only one to refuse to trade with you, but it's one reaction you'll get so be prepared if you go that route. :)

Thanks in advance for the advice on this one.

As a fellow Canadian ( Toronto , Ontario ) both hubby and I pay the shipping to our house for a few reasons :

    - We are not worries about the added weight in our luggage upon flying to Seattle
    - We want to see the buttons before hand , in case a : we are unhappy with them and want to make another button or love them and want to order more
    - we also pre package the buttons into smaller ziplock bags so they are easier to carry around the convention and there never seems to be enough time during the weekend at the hotel or convention for this sort of thing.

Good luck with whatever option you choose, and hopefully we'll catch each other to trade pins .
