    Man yeah, fucking Torchlight 2

I mean I'm still getting it because they make fun stuff, but they really needed that to be out last year.

Yeah I would have bought it, but not now.

I don't see why not, $20 for a bit of Different Diablo seems like a decent price. Though I guess these games do kind of expand to fill the space you've got... poor guys.

Take a moment to donate what you can to Critical Resistance and Black Lives Matter.

grok, get the picture, comprehend, savvy, dig, grasp, compass, apprehend, understand.

'grasp' is probably the closest to it i've seen

but grok has such strong connotations, it's like 'to completely understand and be one with something', right

like, 'it took me thirty or forty blowjobs to really know how porn stars felt' or 'to really grasp how porn stars felt' or 'to really empathize with the feelings of porn stars'

they all seem weaker than grok

    but

i refuse to use this shitty nerd word, even though it seems useful

Not to me, personally. Grok carries no special connotations of strength of meaning. Modifiers like truly, really, etc can be added to it just as easily. Truly understand conveys the idea clearly and concisely to me. Personally.

    I guess my questions are
*) why is it a shitty word, if it seems useful?
*) what makes it a nerd word? It's in the OED, and I believe Stranger in a Strange Land had a wider audience than nerds / geeks / hippies.

    oh, I like ken.

Seeing as how it is one of the Nac Mac Feegle's favorite words in Terry Pratchett's books. I hope he chooses this word over grok.

    For the delicious IRONY.

The biggest reason grok sounds like a nerd word to me is it sounds similar to shit like frack or whatever shitty fake curses they put into sci-fi shows

People who use that kind of language as a replacement for good, honest curses need to be executed
