Probably because it isnt listed as a general Penny Arcade TS server.

I mean you can use it for general stuff, but I wouldnt expect a lot of people on it right now.

I was just playing Guild Wars 1 and wanted to get my mesmer out of melee range fast. I double-tapped D to dodge out and nothing happened.

    Is it BWE time yet?

If I played BWE 1 with a beta key, does that put me into the next BWE's, too?

I think so. Not certain though.

If you played it and liked it though, why not prepurchase?

I believe the passed out beta keys get you into specific betas, the only thing that gets you into all of them is prepurchasing. At least thats what I remember hearing.

I will, but I'm just covering my bases (it's sold out again)

  • DraygoDraygo Registered User regular
    Uh oh.

Sold out might mean they cut it off to get ready for the next BWE.

or someone forgot to refresh the availible keys.

I'm hoping the former (but not this weekend, next weekend plx)

That would be the worst weekend to have a BWE. This weekend, or maybe just two in June.

Nope best weekend. Sorry if you want to play D3, I don't.

  • TolerantZeroTolerantZero Consistently Inconsistent Registered User regular
Yeah, I am not getting D3 for a while so I'm all for next weekend having the event. It can't be this weekend, since they would have made an annoucement by now.

If it's not next weekend, though, the 25th sounds likely as well.

It's not disingenuous. Cantha and Elonia are inaccessible. The other charr capitals are not. Furthermore, human civilization is on a decline, as stated many times now by many official sources.

I don't know why you say the humans are "more flexible to innovation"—where's your proof? They've relied on the gods and they continue to try and do so; they've made no "innovative" progress whatsoever. They're stagnant, just like the asura, just like the norn.

The charr are the only ones who've been innovating, because they've had to. The charr have gone from 12th-century to late 19th-century technology in only 250 years. Right now, they're about on par with the other races in terms of destructive capability. Extrapolate the trending they've shown, and they will surpass the other races in just a few years. Meanwhile, they're more numerous, more disciplined, more fierce, and terrifyingly more innovative than every other race.

Again, it's safe to say that they are the dominant race out of the five races.

If one of the charr manages to become ur-Khan, then everyone else is fucked.

I agree with Entaru's assertions on the above. Sylvari and Asura are being innovative because they are ethier new and need to catch up or because they are basically the stereotypical nerds and it's what they do. Charr progress and innovate out of a desire to overcome their past in a present that is increasingly dangerous, what with only now overcoming age old hatreds with the humans (while fighting ghost human hordes at home) and dealing with the Flame Legion race schism thing. Also Elder Dragons. It's analogous to the Industrial Revolution only in motivation, not in execution or in exclusivity.

Humans and Norn are less interested in advancing knowledge through technology and are more interested in enjoying the innovations of others while focusing on their own traditions and disputes. Also Magic.

    Oh, and it's Khan-Ur, not Ur-Khan. /lorenazi

That's what I get for trying to post on my smartphone... I was hoping I hadn't missed anything like that.

Let us try a different approach. What would you say are the advantages and disadvantages that each of the five major races has versus the other races?

I like charr because I have a distorted world view (much like Kenneth). I don't see warrior beast-people, I see "KITTY!"

To answer your question, though, hm: Charr have a unified, direct, military society with minimal bureaucracy, which means that they get stuff done. Unless they start the in-fighting (presumably because they got bored and/or war costs become too high).

Asura have SCIENCE(-ish), but they're also prone toward valuing ELITISM. Ancient Romans and Greeks know how that goes over.

Norn are liked by everyone but the Asura (see ELITISM) and are unlikely to be the target of a genocide, unless a crazy ruler demands their servitude.

Humanity has boatloads of faith, and nothing about their religion really precludes them from incorporating more innovation (although they may refuse it simply because it is charrish). Less god-intervention means weaker humans, but less godliness also means less Jade Wind. Generally, humanity is too faithful.

Sylvari are...boring? Okay, while their culture is interesting, sylvari politics are bland/nonexistent. While they're as liked as the norn, the sylvari's self-proclaimed destiny to 'hunt the dragons' could warp into a self-righteous and misguided 'save the world' (possibly to the point of attempted genocide).

That said, every race has the potential for mass murder. Charr are the most likely candidate, since whenever they don't have a clear goal they start the civil wars. The asura are more likely to enslave than kill, but I could see them exterminating a 'potential threat' (they've been trying to do that to the skritt forever, apparently). Norn like to hunt. Humans are zealots. Sylvari have the aforementioned savior complex, and none of the other races seem particularly concerned about pollution or other side-effects (externalities!).

Yeah how far apart was the last stress test and the last beta event? A week? I am wondering what their confidence levels are.

Seven hours is pretty good 'cuz I don't think I want to play a game for that long so by the end of it I'll be ready to take a break for a while.

They don't exactly need everybody to come to the stress test in order to see what their servers can handle. They just need to throttle players into a limited number of servers (probably 3 at a time, or else WuvWuv wouldn't work).

Edit: Speaking of which, I can only assume our WuvWuv team is gonna zerg the WuvWuv scene! Right? Wait...I don't think they're going to let us switch servers this time. :(

While we will get to scratch that itch, I cant beleive some of you think taking the entire day aside for a STRESS TEST is a good idea?

Realize its got a high chance to suck and you will spend almost none of that time playing. Imagine it being like when the last BWE started, but the first 5 hours was all you got. In other words, barely nothing.

I plan to jump on after work and hope I can fiddle with some more builds / professions.

Should point out that the stress test will be a huge let down if you think you are going to be having a good time...

I.e. don't get your hopes up for seven hours of game time.

I will probably not be in the stress test, available time or not, because it is a stress test, and therefore not for fun times, but lag times.

I want to save my boner for the real weekend.
