    I should just pick up and move to a PDT timezone. That'll solve all my problems.

    That's just for global play. I'm pretty sure they said at one point it'll be available at 12 am EST for ESTers. WoW always is, anyway.

    Monday 8:01 AM PDT - installable.
    Tuesday 12:01 AM PDT - playable.

    for EST, 11 am and 3 am.

    Probably because it's easier to focus a simultaneous sever opening where the company is based out of. Blizzard is sadly a PST company.

    blizzard has their servers set up by regions, not time zones, so they have to let the whole region play at the same time

    this means waiting until the last time zone in the region has hit midnight

    Yes, for cataclysm. It wasn't available to play for East coasters until 3am. I'm betting this has something to do with the digital unlocks/whatnot.

    We were very up set a year ago, but no one remembers.

    if you don't want to play it on release day or get a collector's edition then no, there's no particular reason to preorder.

    The collector's edition for D3 is pretty sweet and gets you some unique in-game swag you're extremely unlikely to have access to later (blizzard has never been big on offering that stuff later on) so if you have the money it's worth it. I got D3 for free via annual pass or wouldn't have been able to afford it at all so no in-game angel wings for me. :(
