I didn't know that, but it totally makes sense now!

The only 'trick' I can think of is to reduce spacing to 1 and squish down and rotate the circle a bit on a hard round brush for better linework with a bit more character.

I probably have mono. And maybe strep, too. Apparently they can happen together.

Dear Universe: are you even serious

NOooooo. ARe you still waiting for test results?

    ND's been kissin it up.

The only thing I remember about the time I had mono, was that I had to rest every 20 feet when I was trying to move around the house.

Never had the chance to get mono. Do I count my blessings or go cry in the corner?

Well, now's your chance I guess...I'm sure you could arrange for her to spit in your eye or something.

I've been playing a lot of Just Cause 2 recently (it's fun), and I think I actually appreciate the fact that it doesn't seem to make any attempt to conceal the fact that the plot is anything other than stupid, half-assed nonsense and decided to not put any effort into making their cutscenes seem well-produced or that they put more than $15 towards their voice acting budget. It gives it more of a lovable stupid B-movie feel than a lot of action games that take the Michael Bay strategy of trying to dress up their absurdly dumb/basic plot in a ton of production value.

    That sounds super hot.

And I never quite got into JC2- the missions were a bit too... blah for me. And once I drove a monstertruck down a mountain side, I kinda felt like my job was done.

Just Cause is sorta like playing GTA with cheats... it's extremely fun to begin with but eventually it becomes monotonous. Flying an extremely fast jet into pedestrians just isn't that fun when you've already been using propane tanks to fly your car...

Well geeze if you can do that, then you should be able to transfix chainsaws as the plane's propellers. Problem solved.

Quick poll: How long do you have to wait for a response to a text before it's appropriate to get really annoyed?

There was something important here. It's gone now.

Does anyone have any experience with using noise-cancelling headphones or earmuffs, especially using them for long periods of time? A recent office move put me closer to some noisier areas and I need to figure out how to get some silence so I can get my concentration-on...if I just blast Buckethead tunes to try to block everything else out I'm going to go deaf pretty quick.

Noise-cancelling headphones + music/podcasts will probably do the trick. I don't think I've ever used a pair that completely block out sound, but the ones I have used seem to cut out a good amount, IIRC.

    WebButton.jpg sig3.png
  • NappuccinoNappuccino Registered User regular
How loud is the noise? There are concert type ear plugs that just take off 10-20db from what is going on outside. They're also like 10 bucks so they're way cheaper than any noise canceling headphone will be.

Skip the getting annoyed and assume they've got a good reason. Much less stressful, and if you find out there was a real reason to be annoyed later, you'll have that much more credibility if you call them on it.

Depends on the text I would think.

If it's "Yo I got cancer and could use some help with junk" then I would like a prompt reply.
If it's "Yo butts lol!" then I wouldn't really expect a response at all.

And then if it was to someone like my brother, chances are his phone is lost/dead, or he didn't pay his bill. So it's a crapshoot.

I think I'll just get some big dorky industrial strength earmuffs and cram my earbuds in there underneath if I want music. The thing that's most important to me is being able to get to as close to silence as possible when I need to concentrate on shit (as I've said before (and other people here have shit on this opinion before despite name dropping* some grade A sources), is that even soft music can offer up too much distraction if you're really having to work out a tricky drawing problem). Unfortunately this is difficult to do when your open plan-office places you effectively in a busy hallway, several feet from the entrance to the most heavily used conference room on the floor.

*It's a little depressing that the idea of having a workspace with an actual door you can close if you need to seems like such a quaint, old-timey notion. The closest I've ever had to having an office was having a cubicle with actual, head-high walls...but even that I was sharing with 3 other people. :/

I would totally draw in silence if I wouldn't get so bored and lonely without music/podcasts. I need something besides arting to keep my short-spanned attention focused.

My big problem is I love environment paintings but I have no imagination so I always default back to my terrible child memory of ideas from this dvd:

One of my favourite tricks in photoshop is to create a new brush and tick colour dynamics in the brush window. Set foreground/background, hue, saturation and brightness jitter and roundness jitter all to 0, and switch control to 'fade' and the value to whatever is appropriate for your document size. Have your foreground colour as a nice dark green and your background colour as a lighter more yellow green. Combine this with pen pressure, you have instant realistic grass.

So I am surprised that i'm not really excited about Brave's release tomorrow, and I don't know why!

This is strange, seeing as i've been jazzed about any PIXAR product coming out for years (save Cars and its sequel).

Cars 2 made me sad about the state of Pixar. The things I've heard and seen about Brave is making me more sad, and Monsters University is one of the more upsetting things I've seen.

  • GodfatherGodfather Registered User regular
I can accept that PIXAR made Cars 2 to help pay the bills; that's what many people involved with the picture stated upfront, and it's what helps support and keep the other projects alive (take BRAVE for example). I mean it was something we had to deal with during the Disney renaissance in the 90's (though probably not as immediate and obvious as Cars 2 was). I'm sure if I were a kid in my single digits during its release I would have ate that stuff up.

I also wouldn't be surprised if PIXAR began to hit a bit more of a lull with their track record on movies; nobody can stay on top forever, no matter how productive or powerful a studio becomes. Sometimes it's the sleepers that disrupt the safe bets, kinda like how the Lion King was an unexpected monumental success while their top-tier AAA project Pocahontas is somewhat forgettable in today's eyes.

I will however reserve any further judgement on PIXAR until I at least see BRAVE and some more of their upcoming future projects!

The Brave trailers seem specifically cut to make it look as dull and run-of-the-mill coming-of-age/kid vs. apparently stupid parents as possible. At least, I hope it's mostly the cutting of the trailers. I haven't really read early reviews but I did see Onion AV gave it a B, which is about as good as it gets over there unless something is amazing as all get out.

I'm gonna see it and reserve judgment until I do.

the impressions I've been hearing are that Brave is ok, but rather bland. Which... to be honest, isn't something I expected to hear about a Pixar movie.
