The Second City. Perfect name for it, not only does it sound oddly mythical, it grounds the city. It reminds every would be student of history of how time has affected the city. A city burnt to ashes but risen from it like a certain bird of legend, glowing with renewed majesty and authority. A powerhouse in it's own right, but still in the shadow of a real juggernaut of economic and cultural. Rebirth and shadows sound pretty neat, huh? Especially when your a vampire. Flowery terms used to reveal an another hidden meaning best not said out loud. The cities a dark hellhole that might as well be a walking corpse. Well, at least that means you'll fit right in.
The city, like America in general, is stagnating and entering a downward spiral. Homelessness, underemployment, rapid loosening of regulations are increasing every day. Crime might be down, but that's partly because "crime" itself is losing it's own definition. Robbing people at gunpoint for what's in his wallet might land some SOB ten to twenty in jail, but foreclose on his home even if he makes every payment or steal his pension and you'll get a pat on the back for a job well done. And the homeless are still the homeless. No one gives two craps what happens to a few bums here or there. It might suck to be a human, but the getting's good if your a vampire. A little too good to be honest here in Chicago.
The Prince, Mathew Cooke, isn't exactly a weakling but the job appears to be too much for him. Might be why he's the third we had since Y2K seemed like Gehenna was real and right around the corner. Any Cammy toad really qualified for that type of position died in the Chicago fire, in the bloodbath refereed to by the history books as the Prohibition, or is in Torpor. While the Sabbat are too busy tangoing with the Garou in the burbs to really take advantage of this, Clan Giovanni came out of nowhere and took a huge chunk out of the Southside, Downtown, and the Loop. That fucking pissed the Prince off. Not that much he really could do about it though, part of the reason the pen is mightier then the sword is because you can't exactly rally your men and arm your men against a foreclosure or a corporate buyout as well as an army. Or not without a degree of a subtly at least. In any case Lorenzo Giovanni and Mary Millar run the Clan and for now, act as separate governing body for the Kindred residing in their borders.
Hey us Anarchs haven't been asleep either but things have been held us back a bit. Our nominal leader here Virgil, loves taking things slow. Some might say too slow. Some say he was in a prime position for Prince way, way back when the Chicago Fire charred the last competent Prince's ass to ashes. Doesn't matter though, while he might be going on and on about caution and being careful, some of us are making our own plays. As a said before if your a Vampire, the gettings are good.

I have this urge for a character that would normally be a Sabbat member but came to the quite rational conclusion that "Goddamn, the Sabbat is stupid" and joined the Anarchs instead.
And a Lasombra would be fine.
