Cant find it offhand but If you go to The wiki page of performance enhancing drugs in sport you see then reference the first marathon in 1904 where they shot the winner up with strychnine and brandy.

A lot of people don't realize that performance enhancing drugs were only banned in the Olympics after 1967.
