Personally having a tac klingon and an engi fed, I prefer my engi if only for survivability and usefulness in ground missions. Like my tac captain in theory has more dps but when they draw aggro they get pasted, where as my engi I can pop miracle worker my shield heal and or my group ability to up my shields. It lets me fly a more aggressive ship like the avenger with cruiser weapon ability popped. On the ground its no fucking contest how the engi is seemingly better, between quantum mortars, turrets, the ability to heal an allies shields, drop a support drone, call in an orbital strike and debuff enemies I'm freaking O'brien Rambo.

As far as having all that unrefined Dil when they gave instances dil drops and quests, just doing daily stuff for marks shot my dil up there. On top of that I've just been maining my engi because again he's a lot more fun to play than my tac by far.

And yes contributing a duty officer to the fleet does drop them from your roster, but fleet contributions are always whites. I'd recommend against doing that until you've built up a decent reserve of officers so you can run your DOFF missions reliably.

I'm wondering with the last spire upgrade we are working on it says space roster +1 does that mean everyone in the fleet will get to slot 6 dudes in their space roster?

Engy is my favourite by far in space and ground. He can do whatever and completely avoid blowing up.

Besides I was always a Geordi, O'brien, Scotty, kind of guy. And you can be that and a bad ass in STO.

I still have to say I think the best faction set is the Borg Omega one, their rifle looks sweet, team ambush field helps your entire group, and you can ground cloak. Plus when you do those fuck you hard elite borg ground missions having the ability to fast remodulate your weapon is a god send.

You have to buy it like the embassy assignment slots.

Wait shit there are embassy assignment slots? SHIT!

Though I know the spire one will take a bit to finish, I mean all the easy FM marks are pinged, but the other parts are a lot harder to push up epecially the spire provisions since those just take marks and give nothing. I've done my part and purchased 100 provisions.

Right now I want to work toward one of the Fleet Mogh Battle Cruisers for when I get to lieutenant general in 5 ranks and I'm thinking of donating a bunch of my raw resources for that, but I've never done any crafting and I don't know if I'd be better off holding on to it.

The new crafting system is really easy to level, you should at the very least send one research per slot you have everyday.

Hmm alright then, on the one hand I don't want to delete my character, but on the other I already have an engineer (Klingon) at high level and I'd like one of each kind of officer... Well, I'll play some more KDF before deciding.

Edit: Okay so two questions, firstly, I've never done any crafting and I don't know how, how important is it? Right now I'm more interested in trying to get another ship and I'm currently at the brigadier general tier though not level 50 yet, should I just put all of my crafting materials into fleet stuff? I get plenty of quality equipment from drops and missions so far anyway.

Also, I assume this to be the case but do you lose an officer when you contribute to duty officers to fleet stuff?

Crafting just started and I don't know if anyone's really gotten into it yet. I'm guessing it takes at least level 12 to have a shot at purple mkXIIs, and my alts are only just getting into level 10. Odds are the level bump will come and just push it further away by time I get there.

Edit: I will agree that engy is my favorite ground class. The turrets are pretty darn useful. If it wasn't for the Dyson zone I'd never do ground though.

Rank 15 you get a special you can make for each sub class. For cannons its a wide arc heavy cannon with 90* firing and you can crit it for ultra rare. Beams gets a 360 beam, eng, shields, and science its the aegis set.

I would assume they did, since some people already can make the new crafting stuff and I haven't hit that and I've been doing it since it went live.

They spent lots of dilithium. The ranks don't transfer over, but if you did have high levels of it then there is an accolade you get.

Some info from tribble/devs, and some corrections on my last info post:
Right now, it's 32,000 exp from 50 to 51. You can gain exp anywhere post-50, but gain is reduced, so it takes a lot longer than the 1-50 process.

These skill points don't go towards your skills, so you can't max your skill tree. There's mixed reports that you can go a bit past the current caps, all the way to the separate space and ground caps (right now you can't reach both caps at the same time).

The post-50 skill trees aren't working, but you get one point every time you fill the exp bar.

The Jem'Hadar one? I've heard its pretty fast. I'm loving my avenger especially with cloak. Not loving idiots who don't know how to do the cure found, but thats just something I run for marks and R&D so minor loss.

It's pretty damn nimble. I was tooling around Spire space with it last night and it's agile. Doesn't quite turn on a dime but it turns tighter then any of my other escorts. It seems to be the best of both worlds. I ran out of Fleet Marks to stuff it full of anti-proton gear, so I'm gonna throw my current Escort's equipment load out on it and try to use it against the Crystalline Entity.

Only issue I could see is getting sploded, though with 4 engi slots that might make you pretty hardy.

On Entity I can routinely finish in first in my avenger as long as I keep on point with the entity and don't get hosed by someone pushing it away from everyone else (I had one where someone had pushed the stupid thing into the planet, only way to reliably attack it was to go vertical).

Does the Jem'hadar have a special ability other than being ridiculous?

No, just being ridiculous. It's got an ensign Eng slot, two universal Lt slots and a Lt. Commander and Commander Tactical slots. So I can run two Engineers and a Science slot with the shield and hull regen buff. So it should be as survivable as my current Escort. One of my engineers will be getting a demotion but I still end up with one more officer slot then I had before.

We'll have to group up one of these times and do some STFs, if only for hilarity sake with all that forward fire power.

I forget do you use torps or are you all cannon all the time?

I'm trying to decide if I want to spend some dil to get fleet marks and pick up a rommie science officer for that bonus cloak damage and damage resistance. I mean on my ship since its not a battle cloak it'll only really be useful for opening salvos, but on azure nebula and crystal entity that means I can get some extra alpha strike damage going on.

I stopped using the omega cutting beam on my ship. I have it on my beam boat, but on my cruiser with all the other consoles I'm using I can't seem to find a place for it. I could probably drop the quantum weapon system, but I like firing those extra projectiles for the extra boom!

No I get that's where beam goes, just console wise on my ship I have almost all the space taken up with various fleet consoles. So the omega set bonus I wouldn't get without slotting the console.

Proper DR trailer instead of that thing from a while back. No stirring epic speech like LoR, but just all kinds of shipwank. Tons of new ships for the factions we already know will be showing up (and some unfamiliar ones), several massive Citadel-sized ships for various factions, what looks like a Caretaker array, some quick glimpses of new player faction ships, an in-game shot of what appears to be the Kobali homeworld (matches the purple pyramid style in the concept art), the Borg Cooperative, a Borg unimatrix getting blown up by the Voth (who in turn are blown up by Voyager and several Benthan ships), a Vaadwaur getting punched in the face, and what appears to be an away team ziplining accross a wide chasm.

By the way, since we're about to tick over to page 99, is it too early to call dibs on the new thread in a week or two?

Looks like it should be some fun times ahead!

I still think the Voyager ship design is cool, but I don't think I'll get the refit as I'm sure it'll be a science ship and I prefer cruiser/escorts for my engy captain.

I think the rare male tac rommie embassy boffs are the only ones really worth it for the the bonus crith and critd. Also keep in mind subterfuge doesn't stack if you already have another boff with it.

Some information on tier 5 to tier 6 upgrades filtered out of today's dev blog and the huge number of dev posts:
Most tier 5 ships will have an upgrade path to "Tier 5U."

    Tier 5U ships will have:
12 boff powers (same as current tier 5 ships)
11 console slots (1 more than current lockbox/fleet/3-pack ships)
Generally *superior* hull and shields to true tier 6 ships.
4 mastery levels, each rewarding a passive buff to the ship

True tier 6 ships will have:
13 boff powers with access to the 4th hoff type
    *10* console slots
Generally inferior hull and shields to T5U ships
5 mastery levels, 1-4 rewarding passive buffs to the ship and 5 rewarding a trait that can only be slotted while flying that ship

Note on mastery levels: Tier 5U and tier 6 ships level up independently from your captain. Mastery levels 1-4 (6 and 5U ships) will unlock passive buffs for the ship. Level 5 (6 only) unlocks a space trait related to that ship.

All level 60 content is balanced around 9-console tier 5 ships, meaning all of the above is just plain solid power creep.

I love power creep, there is nothing that makes me more frustrated in an rpg than the idea of everyone competing at the same level. Harrison Bergeron was a cautionary tale you dill weeds!

    Addendum:
Tier 5U comes in both 10 and 11 console varieties, depending on whether it's an upgrade from a 9 or 10 console ship.

    10 console T5U have:
    12 boff powers
    10 consoles
Generally *similar* hull/shields to T6 ships
    4 mastery levels.

So, if you're coming from a 9 console tier 5 ship, then compared to proper Tier 6 you're missing one boff power, and don't get the level 5 mastery trait (which needs to be slotted to work, so it's not free like levels 1-4).

If you're coming from a fleet, lockbox, or 3-pack ship, you're missing one boff power, but also gain one console slott and have superior hull and shields.

Depending on where the extra slots lie, Fleet tier 5U vs. Tier 6 is generally a wash as far as itemization budget, but standard tier 5U is not.

At launch there will be no fleet tier 6 ships, but presumably when they come they'll have 13 boff powers, 11 consoles, and improved hull/shields. Basically all the pros and cons of fleet tier 5U and standard tier 6.

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
According to new post on tier five upgrades they will cost zen signifigantly lowered if you purchase a tier 6, by how much no idea, and the cost will be five to 10 dollars, but again I don't know if thats the reduced cost or base cost.
