Has anything been shaken up since about a year ago, or is everything still standard, build wise? Beam boats, cannon escorts, etc. Anything new/any balance issues? Sifting through patches now.

Beam overload doesn't drain power anymore, always crits but has a slightly lower dmg bonus as a trade off.

Also the trait system has been totally reworked, you have fewer active traits, but they are a little more powerful. You can swap them out at any time in sector space or other non-combat areas like spacedock.

The trait thing sounds cool. I know about the Romulans but apparently there's new Klingon stuff now? Do they have their own unique stuff to play through now? Also, I guess Federation stuff got an overhaul. Is that just at the tutorial level or all the way through?

You can play Klingons from level 1 so they have a good chunk of stuff added in in terms of a lead in story yeah. Feds have a sort of 3-mission tutorial arc that is actually pretty good, shows how far they have come in terms of mission design at least.

Oh, and each faction has a boff that you get at the end of the tutorial stuff that is kind of like a first officer. If you feel like it you can airlock em, bar the Romulan guy because he is stubborn. If you don't want to play the tutorials or if you want that boff on a main, then I think you can pick them up at the academies.

Alright thanks for the info. Been playing this on and off since launch and I'm happy to see that they are genuinely set on improving stuff, and they have pretty much every time. Hope the success continues.

Btw, with the rommie special deal going on now, I decided to pick up a cheap cell ship on the market yesterday, maybe to use or flip later. And then I decided to buy a cheap rommie pack for the hell of it, and got...a cell ship. So, if anyone wants to hit those special suliban doff jobs, gimme a shout if you see me around.

So I made my Kzinrret Ferasan (had to delete my Gorn sadly but I was sort of eh on him anyway, made an Engineer to better utilize battle cruisers) does the House of M'rch exist still? Is it invite only? Couldn't find it on the fleet list.

Seeing how the fleet list is always changing I'm assuming someone from the fleet needs to be online for the fleet to appear on the list? Can someone send a character an invite if they're not on?

huh, got a notification that I tried to log on to STO on the 9th of August.

It sent through the secuirity code, which means they have my username and password.

Updated that, but I'll log in tonight to see if they did any damage.

Hope it's not a key logger, that's going to be a pain to remove.

Yea, need to post your name or such.

Changing how I'm doing doffing a bit. My usual thing was to spend extra fleet creds on purples, keep ones I like, break down the rest to whites, fleeting those and selling any high-value ones that popped out along the way. Couldn't do this KDF side though as we can't buy purples, and since I got tired of just saving up I took another look at the math. I could trade in 50k creds for 2 purples, for 52 whites. Or I could trade it in for something like 220 whites, by buying whites directly. This doesn't get me those higher-value greens/blues/purps, which was a good source of my income, but it does get me a lot more refugees, which can then get me greens/blues/purples. Maybe even more purples than if I'd bought 2 directly. The main downside is it's slower, since I need to ship out those refugees, and I need to hold up whenever I need the next fleet project to clear out. I actually started this to try and decrease my KDF's amount of saved fleet creds, and by moving projects faster it's actually increased it.

Anyways, my point is, go ahead and dump all your fleet marks and dil to keep fleet projects moving, so that I can move these hundreds of doffs. :p

Picked up the Jupiter Uniforms during the sale and upgraded my Avenger, now she can dish it and not explode when something glances her way. Swapped my torps to the romulan rapid fire ones, combined with the cloaking device and boff torp strike, I open up on enemies hard. Consistently my ship is a 1/2 finish on crystaline entity.

I certainly hope the reference to B'eler's mate was what it sounded like, and was intentional. It certainly paints a somewhat more open minded picture of the Klingons at least :P

Supposedly it was originally a mistake (NPC was created with the wrong gender), but it's been knowingly left alone since season 3, so I assume it's been accepted as correct now.

    Level cap increase: http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/6009103

Big thing: Skill points don't convert into expertise until you've fully maxed out the entire skill tree. So that's one level of complexity out of the whole progression clusterfuck. Each level from 51 to 60, you'll gain a Specialization Point which you'll spend in a different, new skill tree. So there's that level back.

Level 55 ranks: Fed: Admiral Rom: Admiral, Klingon: General
Level 60 ranks: Fed: Fleet Admiral Rom: Fleet Admiral, Klingon: Dahar Master

In addition to the spec points, you get:
    51: Doff minipack
    52: Fleet Support III
54: Strike Team III, Engineering Proficiency III, or Scientific Aptitude III
    55: Boff candidate
57: Tactical Fleet III, Engineering Fleet III, Science Fleet III
    60: Trait Slot

Edit: Also, data mined leaks from the tribble patch (Tribble's down, but a huge patch will still download)
Next lockbox has a Benthan Cruiser, Hazari Escort, and Kazon Destroyer

There is a filename referencing the Dauntless Class

The 4th boff class is Intelligence, division color is purple. Skill names in the files (not clear which are space or ground, or what any of them do):
    Energy Signature Override
    Surgical Strikes
    Electromagnetic Pulse Probe
    Subnucleonic Carrier Wave
    Override Weapons Safety
    Override Energy Signature (possible duplicate)
    Override Engines Safety
    Override Auxiliary Safety
    Transport Warhead
    Subspace Beacon
    Viral Impulse Burst
    Kinetic Magnet
    Evade Target Lock

I would figure there would probably be a way to upgrade them when you get to 60? They said they want them to be competitive so either a new fleet class or c store option.

Lockbox and promotion ships get a free upgrade. Everybody else gets "a way." There's apparently only like a dozen new player ships coming out with the expansion, so rather than slowly fleshing out tier 6 they're just bringing everything with them. There's also this, that was briefly accessible on holodeck, so it looks like they're doing the same with basically the entire endgame - bringing everything from mk XII up to XIV.

In essence, they're trying to do a standard MMO power creep reset without doing the standard MMO gear reset that usually comes with it. By cheating and bringing tier 5 up to tier 6, I think they're hoping to create the sense of a fully-there endgame without actually having to create one.

On the one hand, it's cheating and doing the lowest amount of work needed to accomplish a given goal. On the other hand... well, Imagine the state Klingons and Romulans would be in if their already sparse tier 5 was left behind, and they were left to watch the gap slowly grow as Feds get two ships and a shuttle for their every refit.

Part of me hopes they won't be touching weapon slots in the 5->6 conversion. Add some console slots, crank health and shields up by a lot, and otherwise let damage and healing just pick up the trickle-down of mk XIV gear upgrades. If they put some serious work into the stat weights, they could use that as an opportunity to fix a lot of problems with the game in both PVE and PVP, and make a more epic-feeling sense of ship duels rather than the trash mob genocide we have now.

But who'm I kidding, they're going to give everybody 2 weapon slots and if we don't have a tac ship with 7 forward slots and dual cannons by the end of next year I'll suck a hundred horse dicks. In a row.

Great a predestination horse dick paradox.

Honestly STO doesn't even have the worst grinds of MMO's I've played. Duty Officer stuff is fairly easy to plug and do, most factions have one easily repeatable either zone or STF you can do once a day. And the new R&D system while obviously overall time consuming is easy to just do research and fire that off.

Okay so, I'm thinking I want to go with escorts with my Federation character, they're only level 10 and I made them an engineer. Should I just delete them and start over with a tactical officer, or is it fine to get ships outside of your specialty?

Your captain's abilities are outnumbered by your boffs, so it's not a huge effect. Also, if you keep playing you'll probably want them all eventually.

Also, how are you guys ending up with hundreds of k of dil...are you only playing one character and going over your 8k every day?

Hmm alright then, on the one hand I don't want to delete my character, but on the other I already have an engineer (Klingon) at high level and I'd like one of each kind of officer... Well, I'll play some more KDF before deciding.

Edit: Okay so two questions, firstly, I've never done any crafting and I don't know how, how important is it? Right now I'm more interested in trying to get another ship and I'm currently at the brigadier general tier though not level 50 yet, should I just put all of my crafting materials into fleet stuff? I get plenty of quality equipment from drops and missions so far anyway.

Also, I assume this to be the case but do you lose an officer when you contribute to duty officers to fleet stuff?
