Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
[Mass Effect] OLD THREAD LEAVE GO BYE SEE YA
Posts
You must mean the George Clooney version.
Anyway let's get back to bitching about the MP instead. Balance changes in an hour or so. And probably no more Piranha.
I also am curious about the new SP DLC weapons. Anyone tried them out?
You bore me, mageling
Those are pretty painful to watch. I've got 68 shots in the mag, let's see it in fully auto! Nope. I'm just going to fire 5 shots and then reload. Over and over.
Except the Reeger. Anyone can empty out a Reeger.
It was from a 'DLC' keys giveaway for some Alienware promotion. All you had to do was sign in if you had an account with them and get one early on. Most people who tried it didn't really like it in single player, though. Considering many players had the Valiant to start with, I can understand that stance.

I kinda had to stop watching cause I was getting annoyed.

Let's Play Mass Effect - Set 6 Updated 9/8/2012
Eh, I think if they tried it was to save face, rather than admit they kinda screwed up in the process of finishing the game.
!!
Sarcasm, or for serious?
Why would they remove one of the most fun guns from the game?

Or are they? I dunno...

AP did the after action interrogation and unreliable narrator way better than DA2. Or is the twist on convention you're talking about how the last third was even sillier and less consistent than ME3's ending
To try and keep the game challenging enough to be satisfying and fun!
On more than just Platinum, I mean
And better to nerf weapons than perpetually buff enemies into bullet sponge territory, as they are wont to do
I really wish I had any idea how to utilize the Paladin
because I don't
feels like a slightly retuned FQE
and is it me or is the damage on his tech abilities ridiculously low?
like, Energy Drain at 240 damage?
...
in the same DLC as Biotic Slash?
I really wish the geth wouldn't dodge so god damn much. Like they can dodge attacks they aren't even facing. That's hella bullshit.
As a "have", and a person that is capable of topping scoreboards regularly:
1. It gets boring melting everything on a difficulty setting that's supposed to be hard and there are rational limits to intentional self-nerfing.
2. It makes the game less fun because people are apt to do stupid things for no reason (AFK, get themselves killed by being hyperaggressive, or just outright cheat and exploit).
3. A balanced game offers opportunity for varied play. Unbalanced weapons skew players toward particular builds and equipment, making the game monotonous. (See: Millions of adepts, then infiltrators, and now errybody has a piranha.)
That said, I use the the piranha on a lot of characters... I have a Typhoon destroyer too, and I wouldn't mind seeing that gun (piranha) get nerfed either. A cooperative game allows everybody to be able to contribute in some meaningful way. Unbalanced things go against the spirit of cooperative play.
I'm ok with that. I welcome it actually, because you do get insightful, interesting commentary that expands your understanding of the item under inspection.
You also get navel gazing idiocy, but you take the good with the bad.

I really hate the London map and hack objectives on it. Wiped on wave 6 on silver. The Horror.
Seriously it has a skull on the side (Blood Pack logo) and is called the Punisher.
Ugh I know
Probably the most annoying thing is that they don't even have to dodge it, the dodge animation just renders them invulnerable
Like when I warp a Cerb trooper's butt right as he's in the middle of his dumpy roll and it does absolutely nothing
This ain't got dang Starfox
And they do it so much more than the other two factions, even on flipping bronze. Its especially annoying with pyros, who should be slow moving close quarters death machines, but no they can also dodge like they are neo.
Its one reason I love the Paladin. "Oh high welcome to my frost jizz, wait right there while I drop an incinerate with some scorp grenades and you all explode like Peter North."
Energy Drain is a "legacy" power. Anyway, it should only be getting used on shields/barriers/synthetics in order to get your shields up/theirs down. Snap Freeze is where the real meat is at, with its insane armor reduction.
Its senuous, like what I do with a banshee is something your momma just told you about.
This is pretty much the heart of the matter. An extension of this is that if you allow these things to fester - say the Piranha stays as the "best" gun in the game - then the "preferred" way to play eventually becomes the "only" way to play. PUGs are terrible and all but sometimes they're the only way to get a game in (bar solo-ing). It's bad enough when you kicked out of one for having an N7 score below 3,000 or whatever, I don't want people giving me shit because I'm not carrying a Piranha X on all my characters. Especially since I still haven't unlocked the damn thing yet.
The solution, of course, is to patch in some ME1 Geth hoppers to reestablish the baseline for being a fucking annoying enemy
Complete with the gun-and-power shutdown and poisoning effects.

Yep. It's just going to take some getting used to, because it's a different way of discussing a game than we've had before, I feel. I AM almost tempted to rebut his article with my "Mass Effect as feminist manifesto" theory though... 'Cause I CAN!
Xbox Live: GZOTP | Origin: Khuutra
Among the many things they don't bother telling you, Energy Drain does triple damage against shields, so it can do similar damage as biotic slash against one defense compensating for its specialization by fully restoring your shields and giving you 40% damage reduction.
Oh yes
Reintroducing enemies' use of sabotage and dampening would be excellent in general
Making the hopper a super-mobile caster-type could be pretty cool. Similar to how Nemeses basically function as walking overloads.
But, you know, cooler
Geth right now have the lamest synergy of the enemy factions
Is there any sort of compendium for all of these power and weapon idiosyncrasies
I can never remember which guns I shouldn't use AP on and whatnot
This one is pretty useful. Per your example,
It's easier to remember that as "guns that fire weird shit." Also note that to this day no one knows what the fuck inferno grenade shrapnel does, if anything.
Now cerberous have poor synergy.
This is exactly what I needed, thank ya
On a different note: has anyone had much success running a build of the Quarian female infiltrator that uses sabotage for it's vulnerability and overheat functions? I've been considering a respec to try it out, just for the sake of playing around with some of the old kits, but dunno if I want to spend the card on it.
Oh, not poor synergy, just lame synergy
In that I enjoy being bullrushed by Geth the least
Whereas Cerberus has a fun variety to their tactics
They don't need synergy when they have Phantoms.
