Need some fairly urgent help with a Toshiba Regza TV lacking sound

I have a Toshiba Regza 42LV863 and usually use a Sony amp to play the sound through, connected with an optical cable. Just unplugged the cable and I can't for the life of me get any sound whatsoever from my TV. It's as if the speakers just aren't there, I can't turn the volume up, tried muting/factory reset/ power cycle, but no sound. Any ideas? I'm tearing my hair out here! (luckily I dont have much)
Edit: Seems the speakers are borked. Just plugged surround sound back in and the TV speakers started working again, but the sound is really awful and a little distorted. Will get Toshiba to fix it, it's well within warranty.
