Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Yaaaay. I just got an email from the NaNo people about the new swag they have for sale and got a little excited that it's almost November!
Can we talk about how cool these things are? I also really dig the new 2012 Venn Diagram shirt they're selling.
And I guess I should check if there's still going to be a NaNo group in my city this year. A few months ago I got an email that the two people running it for the past 4 years (or something) were stepping down and looking for someone to take their place. Uh. Hope someone did.

No one so far, sorry. Doesn't mean you can't meet up with people, rub elbows, hob some nobs, etc.
Anyone ready to start planning? I've got a main character and some plots, but I'm still fumbling around for more.

I don't think I am going to do the NYC group this year... I always feel a little like an outsider and it's a bit cliquey. I may see if there's anyone in the Jersey City area, but it is challenging to find local people who are available the same times as you are.
My NEW region is without a ML this year too, but I might conquer THE DRIVING and do some organizing of peoples. Maybe it will help me to not write like a crazy person and take it easy this year. Also, I feel like I need to put down some writerly ROOTS in my new region, since I am planning on staying here for a while.

I am the ML again. Going to do as I did last year and solicit assistants for far-off write-ins. I can hopefully manage more than one a week but we'll see. Between workload and kid, it may not be feasible.
I want to at least get halfway this year, work my way back up to finishing slowly. I'm doing related short stories instead of a straight novel so we'll see how it goes.

That's true! I guess the past MLs just did a lot more, so I'd feel pressed to keep up to their standard. They usually booked rooms at the library here and they even had a fundraiser for NaNo at a local ice cream place, in addition to having end of the month celebrations and stuff.
I don't think you need to stress as a non-official person just trying to get people together. The people who can show up and want to, will, and the people who don't care, won't. You could even set up a recurring write-in thing, where every week on x day at y time, you meet at z place and just write.
I need to get a lap top so I can do write-ins, or possibly summon the energy to organize them myself. I'll have to settle for virtual write-ins with the chat room.
I do not, but my sister used one when she was in high school for her lab reports, etc. They are pretty absolutely basic and I would guess, they also keep down the "going back to reread" time loss, since I would not want to scroll through that tiny screen!

If any of you have an iPhone, I just grabbed an app called A Novel Idea. It's pretty okay so far for organizing and whatnot.

The IRC shall once again be populated. Anyone want to get in there now and do some planning?

My NaNo resolution is to have finished the short story I've been nursing and then rewrite another short I did some time back and finish the summary for the novel I wrote last NaNo. And then savor vicariously all the novels that you people write who have a lot more time than me. *sadface*

alright, Fearghaill tries to NaNo and stick with it past a week before getting discouraged/distracted/lazy and dropping out, take 4.
I am ready for it this time. Work was giving away older laptops we weren't using anymore in exchange for donations to charity, and I picked one up. It will have nothing but a word processor installed, and I'm unhooking the wireless adapter. I've moved into a new house, and I've got a room in which there is no TV/gaming computer/other sources of distraction in which I can lock myself to write. Just a desk, bookshelves, and an elliptical bike so that if I need to get my head clear I can take a break doing that and still think about the story.
I came up with my idea for this year's NaNo project about a week or two ago. I'm not doing a novel. Instead, I'm doing 50K words worth of short stories in a collection called "Tales of the Space Buddha," which will give a sci-fi/fantasy/satirical twist on each major world religion. I got the idea after seeing this article.
Oh, yeah, we should probably remind everyone where we are on the NaNo site to buddy up. I'm also Dalboz on NaNoWriMo.
Need to finish editing my nano from last year so I can write the sequel for this year. Editing suuuuuuucks. Look forward to see you on the irc's for word sprints.
Well. I guess I am using October to query instead of for reading myths. Maybe just the FIRST half of October? I seem to recall that I failed to read any Herc myths last October as well, which ultimately led to my working on Orc Romance instead of Herc last year.

Second thoughts kicking in already. Well, mainly laptop, keyboard acting up, but thoughts came into play.
Don't think I'll do it this year. It's not sparking, got a dozen other things I'm trying to work on, and I know I can do it, which takes away a lot of my energy for these things. Nothing to prove to myself.
And I know I can't quit, won't quit once I start. I can only back out before I sign up.
So, uh... luck to everyone who has more drive for this than me.

I guess maybe I'll have to try to pick up the reins if no one else in this region does. Ugh. I hate planning things, though, so I don't know.

And doing a word count by hand blows.

Going to give it another go this year, however, since I had a nice little premise spring to mind a month or so ago.

It does seem weird that they put it up now, though. Didn't they used to reveal it only when the month was over?

I know I can get two full-length novels out if I've got nothing else to do for a month.
