The 2d intro animation was awesome. Sadly that can't be the way the whole game looks given the engine. The 3d stuff was just random shooting/punching (and wanking/shooting) at nothing so it's hard to say what the it'll really be like.

I got a serious "Homer Simpson in 3d" vibe in the middle part. :|

I personally think it looks fine. It's not going to blow anyone away visually, but it doesn't make my eyes hurt and for an idie game that's really all I ask as far as graphics go.

I could get used to the graphics, they're not that bad.

But they should have hired the people who worked on Cardboard Tube Showdown to do the models, because the models in it are awesome.

The first time I heard of a PA game I was very very frightened. With something as near to dear to my heart as PA, not to mention the entire community behind it, it seems like a very dangerous practice. If they do well, it'll be a resounding success and Gabe and Tycho can raise their heads high and say "See, this is how you make a good game!"

However, there's a chance for failure as well. If they screw up and this game sucks, well then PA - which makes fun of crappy games and crappy game developer decisions - will look a little silly.

Like most of you I was hope for a crisp, cel-shaded extravaganza. I do not like this 3D nonsense at all. Even for cutscenes, they just look too...weird.

I hope that Gabe and Tycho really reevaluate that way of going about things and move to a more 2D style.

I like Gabe's old school boxing style though.

Certainly they have time to fancify everything yet, but...

If you can't judge a trailer by what you see, what is a trailer for? This is being done by by some indie group, right? It's not like their tyrannic publisher forced a trailer on them.

Exactly, there's no incentive to improve if there's no criticism. Prepare to be dazzled by the final build (hopefully)!

    Exactly.

HAY GUYS, 3D TYCHO AND GABE LOOK LIKE CRAP! FIX IT!

But the 2-D parts are quite, quite nice. And the Fruit Fucker (both 2-D and 3-D) looks wonderfully disturbing. Nice humping action.

Hey guys, I just wanted to hopefully clarify some of the stuff in that trailer.

First of all, we probably should not have dropped that trailer just yet. Our 3D stuff just isn’t ready.

Okay, with that said. I’m glad we can all pretty much agree the 2D intro is cool. It shows off the detective agency that Gabe and Tycho work at and gives some clues about the world. I like it.

The decision to add the 3D stuff was made at the last minute. We were afraid people might think the entire game was 2D. We put the 3D stuff in there to show that we intend to create a 3D game. It was just way too soon to show that stuff. There are a lot of effects we have planned like cell shading that just aren’t in yet. There’s still a ton of work to do in order to really define the look of the game.

Honestly the feedback we’re getting here is super valuable so I appreciate that. I can also assure you that I would never allow the game to ship if I didn’t think it looked cool. I’m with you guys. The 3D stuff we have to show now is not up to par. I also know that the people have working on it are good people and they can do this. We’ll get it there.

Remember the first 3D Link model? Could've been Gabe's brother.

Seriously though, the models mostly look bad in screenshots. They look decent enough in motion.

I didn't think the 3d stuff looked that bad actually. I'd certainly accept it - I don't really want it to be mind-numbingly amazing looking since my PC doesn't do mind-numbingly amazing games. It took me a few viewings to notice Fruit Fucker's antennae going up as he prepared to shoot.

In the end it leaves me wanting the game, but it leaves me wanting an animated series more...

And the 2d intro is gorgeous.
