When my family first moved from New Orleans to Atlanta, we lived right by that park, and I would go catch random aquatic animals there all the time. I also eat at that burrito place on the regular. Probably not as often as two of the Mastodon dudes do. Or did. I feel like I started seeing a lot less of them right around when Blood Mountain came out. I guess I'd do the same if folks were constantly putting my songs on the jukebox whenever I walked in a place.
I don't know how local rappers can get so into it. I guess there's usually a wider gulf between studio production and live performance for a lot of popular rap than for a band like Mastodon, so you're not just hearing the same shit you hear in your head constantly.
I once asked for Slayer's Reign in Blood for Christmas as a kid. My mom took one look at the cover, came back to me and said, "I don't have a problem buying this for you any other time of the year, but it just doesn't feel right buying it for Christmas.
Fair enough.
Also, I used to really be into black metal in high school. But when I finally began reading translations of the lyrics, and actually saw some of the artwork of some of the albums, I realized that a not insignificant number of them are white-supremacist and/or neo nazis.
Basically, I learned that a good rule is to avoid any black metal band with the word "wolf" in the name.

His mustache.
He gives zero fucks.
And then I imagine the lyrics to "Walk" being replaced with a bread recipe.
