the issue is that while it's space wastage, there seems to be a good case for curved/rounded road systems to be best to manage the traffic AI as it currently is
Cool. The charity shop I work at has it and games only cost £1 here so if it ends up not working it's not a huge loss.
What's the difficulty with getting it to run? Does it not like multicore processors?
Yeah, among other things. It's just... finnicky. Like, I've been running it on Win7 machines for years now and sometimes it'll work and sometimes it won't. Is the copy you're thinking about getting the Deluxe Edition? That's the definitive version these days. Otherwise you need the Rush Hour expansion to use any mods.

SimTower is amazing, except at one point the game breaks down when you tower gets really big and nobody will rent offices or restaurants because the rent is too high (because in big buildings, rent totally goes down, not up). It was such a bitch to change all the rent one by one. Years later I discovered there's a rent wizard to do it all in one shot.

I'll have to remember the next time I play it. It's been awhile on that one...
I also still have my CDs for SimGolf (the first one, not the Sid Meier one), SimCopter, SimCity 2000, 3000, and 4. Oh yeah, and the SNES version of the original SimCity.
my theory is that if you fix every problem in your city and just sit around without any warnings long enough the game starts to fuck with you
and since she builds out slow and never takes it off of Llama, she ends up with numerous consecutive days with lots of revenue and no problems (albeit in a smaller town)
Because I really want TS3 and its expansions but holy shit it would cost a small fortune (even without the stuff packs). I would wait for TS4 and the inevitable complete Sims 3 pack but apparently they're planning to release at least two more expansions (which would make 11 full expansions total).
Disclaimer: I realize that EA exists to make money and not to fulfill my right to reasonably priced soap opera simulations.
They never released a complete Sims 2 collection, they'll never release a complete Sims 3 collection. The only Sims game that saw a collection with all expansions was the first one.

In a word, yes.
Edit: in slightly more words, it may take some effort to get it running on a modern PC. Also you absolutely need, at a minimum, the Network Addon Mod.

in any random 2 hour session she will be hit by multiple disasters
meanwhile in 50+ hours of play I have only been hit by 1
anyone know why?

If you leave your city running on its own, chances are you'll come back to a smoking ruin.
