Scotty, do you ever cast your sculptures in material other than clay? They look so good in clay, but this guy made me wonder if you'd ever consider making toys/action figures of some of your designs?
Lyrium- Thanks! I have had some of my pieces made into model kits by companies, but I lack the skills for molding/casting myself. Most of what I do are commissioned pieces that are one-offs.
Still working on him, but here's where he's at now.
I could finish him quicker if he'd stop eating my tools...gawsh!
I'm getting into painting again, and I've been really feeling the Muppets as of late, so here's 2 paintings I did recently as I get back into my groove. (Don't worry, I'm still sculpting too!)
Both are acrylics on wrapped canvas, and I hope they bring you joy. ;-)
Thanks Buffy!
Depends, but usually about a week off and on. If I just went for it straight probably about 15-20 hours. Tough to gauge time because I don't work constantly on it...couple hours here and there.
Every time I am around Orangutans, I feel a sense of peace. It's like these gentle creatures exude zen or something. I decided to paint that, won't be the last time.
My painting based on the silverback gorilla named 'Charles' at the Toronto Zoo near where I live.
He's a big serious guy, but has a gentle look in his eyes, you just wish you could hug him when you see him.
Paintng orangutan hair is FUN! Painted in a single day, couldn't stop!
Pongo lives at the Center for Great Apes in Florida. Such an amazing creature, I had to paint him! So big, cuddly and hairy!
I've been so caught up in painting that I've really laid sculpting on the back burner for now. (gotta do what makes the $$ right?)
Here's a couple new paintings I've completed recently...lovin' it!
'Linus' (Orangutan at the Centre for Great Apes)
Acrylics on 12x16" canvas
'Peaceful Colossus' (I felt like painting an elephant)

Haha, thanks! All work and no play right? :^:
Working on Taz at the moment, a commissioned piece.
It's fun to work on cartoon characters, but translating the 2D to 3D can be pretty difficult.
I just realized that all of your wip pictures have boobs in them.

Deal fell through in the sale of it to a kit company, so I decided to just paint the original sculpt up.
In the photos it loses some of the colour variations, but I may try to enhance it some, we'll see. For now I'm calling it done.
We'll see!

I had to finally paint him!
Thanks for looking!
