The problem is, I can only redirect one challenge and they're a single point from victory. The Kingsguard has taken victory from me and given it to Lannister. Kinda like in the books, so I guess it's appropos but still. :P
Can't military challenge him either, because of that stupid Septon. You better win your power challenge against them is what I'll say.
Of course, having won the redirect, jdark can now be Done in One thanks to a Stealthy, Renown Stannis.
It's a close game, no doubt.

For reasons I can’t fully explain, this game has been inexplicably stressful for me, so I’m pleased that it’s finally going to end this turn with either a Lannister or Baratheon victory.
Military challenge versus Stark. The Hound and Chella lead the Tribes of the Vale (STR 13). Stealth target Ned.
Viserys doesn't return to your hand unless you save him.
Response: Save Viserys Targaryen from being killed or discarded from play, then return him to his owner's hand.
That means "if you save him from being killed, you return him to your hand?"
The way it reads to me it's that I can save him from being killed and return him to my hand whenever I want.

Yeah, I'm not clear on what more ebum has to do to save Viserys. I mean, I guess he could specifically say "I save Viserys and return him to my hand" but I think that's understood, no?

Pretty sure it works the way ebum says. From the rules:
"Save responses are special effects that interrupt and prevent the killing or discarding of a card in play. However, any costs of the killing/discarding action must still be paid."
A save response is something that says "Response: Save", just like Viserys does in this example.
Why would the card say "then", then?
Why wouldn't they just say "Response: Save Viserys Targaryen from being killed or discarded from play AND return him to his owner's hand."
I think the FAQ makes it clear.
Regardless, I don't think the three of us can stop this. I think I was in position to ninja the game if Master of Whispers wasn't a thing so this makes me sad.

Because if something prevents him from being saved, (like a "Response: Cancel" effect), he doesn't then end up in the player's hand.
Eddard defends, and is stood by the Frozen Outpost. 5 Str is still beaten by your 8 though. Take your power. I think that puts you at 15 yes? Grats Lannister, good game.
I futilely play Forever Burning and use the 2 gold Stark totally just gave me targeting Enemy Informer. He dies. Cersei still has 6 STR and wins though.

Good game Lannister, and I mean it. When you convinced Baratheon to Kingsguard you I felt you had it in the bag then. Interesting considering that earlier in the game I thought you at quite a disadvantage! My how things turned around!
Maybe things would have played out different if I had stood Cat instead of Eddard but I don't really think so. Stark was never really able to recover from the slaughter of all its forces (the Red Wedding of our game, I suppose) and after that my characters were being killed off as fast as I could put them out as they made for easy pickings. It was only the accumulated momentum of my earlier game that allowed me to even play for a possible victory at this stage, and I still came pretty close!
This game sold me on GoT the card game enough I've ordered the core set, although I dunno if I'll ever get any of the expansions; it seems that for my purposes (friendly games with me supplying the game) I'd have to get all of the expansions to keep things even, which would be hella expensive. Maybe if I get enough friends into it we can pool money to get some expansions once the core set starts getting old hat.
Thanks a ton for running this stever! As with most games I play on here, I'd never have had a chance to experience this if it weren't for your efforts!

A save response is something that says "Response: Save", just like Viserys does in this example.
Why wouldn't they just say "Response: Save Viserys Targaryen from being killed or discarded from play AND return him to his owner's hand."
I think the FAQ makes it clear.

Maybe things would have played out different if I had stood Cat instead of Eddard but I don't really think so. Stark was never really able to recover from the slaughter of all its forces (the Red Wedding of our game, I suppose) and after that my characters were being killed off as fast as I could put them out as they made for easy pickings. It was only the accumulated momentum of my earlier game that allowed me to even play for a possible victory at this stage, and I still came pretty close!
This game sold me on GoT the card game enough I've ordered the core set, although I dunno if I'll ever get any of the expansions; it seems that for my purposes (friendly games with me supplying the game) I'd have to get all of the expansions to keep things even, which would be hella expensive. Maybe if I get enough friends into it we can pool money to get some expansions once the core set starts getting old hat.
Thanks a ton for running this stever! As with most games I play on here, I'd never have had a chance to experience this if it weren't for your efforts!
