Announcing the second ShadowPAX-sanctioned location and first ShadowPAX-sanctioned mainline quest: SIMM, the Seattle Interactive Media Museum!
    Website: http://www.facebook.com/thesimm.org
Open: 11 AM - 7 PM, Friday, August 30th (a Saturday or Sunday visit would require a pricey Bumbershoot pass)
Mainline quest time: 11 AM on Friday, August 30th
Address: 305 Harrison St, Seattle 98109

One of the first major events of ShadowPAX will be a visit to SIMM, where you will get to meet the museum's founder, Andrew Perti! Just to ensure that we get maximum enjoyment from the visit, the goal is to get there early in the day as a group. You can vote in the associated Yahoo group thread (that I will be creating shortly) with whether or not you will be attending (so that we have a head count) and your vote for the event start time.

Announcing the third ShadowPAX-sanctioned location: Freeway Park!
    Open: 6 AM - 10 PM
Address: 700 Seneca St, Seattle 98101

Having met at Plymouth Pillars Park, the intrepid ShadowPAX LARPers and cosplayers ventured across the street and wandered down toward the Washington State Convention Center. Shortly down the hill, however, one of their number noticed a tall stone staircase to the left leading up to places unknown. The adventurers climbed upward and found themselves in a great stone labyrinth of structure and beauty...

During ShadowPAX, come here to get your LARP on! Also, the 5.2 acres of flora amidst structured stone make a great backdrop for cosplayers and photo shoots. There is actually an egress from the Convention Center on the same floor as the Expo Halls that opens to here as well.

I have taken some pictures of this location here:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds9lgqqlmr6fx0i/2013-05-18 15.27.52.jpg?v=0swn

Here is the Seattle government's official website to this park, including lots of great photos:
    http://www.seattle.gov/parks/park_detail.asp?ID=312

IMPORTANT NOTE: Regarding the non-corporate public spaces, such as the ShadowPAX-sanctioned parks, there are some special regulations that need to be followed for permits, so if a PAX or ShadowPAX LARP, cosplay or improv gaming group of significant size wants to organize in these spaces (e.g. schedules a special event during ShadowPAX), this must be considered by that party. That being said, permits can also allow vendors, so that holds its own possibilities for interested enterprises. Because ShadowPAX is operating on no budget whatsoever, it will not be organizing any events in these spaces this year, so the city should be contacted instead. ShadowPAX is willing, however, to announce your events if you have obtained the appropriate permits, and will even allow a thread for you in the associated Yahoo group regarding organizing your event. On the other hand, impromptu groups of several can probably enjoy these areas all day without issue. For anything more formal, here is a link to Seattle's policies and permit application procedures: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/reservations/permits.htm

UPDATE: I am unaware if the ShadowPAX badges are forthcoming since I wasn't in charge of supplying those (hint, hint, @Necrotel), so if you plan on participating in this mission, I am removing the rules requirement of needing to have a ShadowPAX or PAX badge featured in each picture.

Announcing the first ShadowPAX-sanctioned mission: Photo Safari of the Papparazzo
Location: Washington State Convention Center and environs; Seattle Public Library
Time: August 30th through September 2nd (Seattle Public Library is closed on September 2nd, so you had better get that part done sooner)

This is a mission, possibly with a reward although it is uncertain what that might be and probably depends on the number of entrants as well. The paparazzo must appear in each photo, so the paparazzo must get someone else to take each photo (or take awkward mobile shots themselves). The Seattle Public Library shots are even more challenging: each must be taken with definite library architecture visible in the background. All photo entries should be posted here: http://www.facebook.com/ShadowPAX2013

The mission will take place in two arenas and will consist of the following sorts of photos:

    ARENA 1
Washington State Convention Center and environs: cosplay outfits; PAX swag; PAX personalities
These will hopefully be general enough that you can catch them without too much difficulty (e.g. an entry of "Mario" on the list would imply that you photograph someone dressed as Mario from a Super Mario Bros. or later game).

    ARENA 2
Seattle Public Library: general locations in the library; video game ideas (i.e. content!); game industry stuff
Since the library is meant to be a structured place, please follow the posted rules and regulations for this locale. While this might seem to be too much of a cerebral challenge, the Seattle Public Library is a really cool building to check out, and you have some leeway as to what you find as your photo sources. But because this is a library, these will be more challenging, such as an image of "Shigeru Miyamoto" that you could find in a magazine or book or a "dinosaur" that you might even find on a DVD cover of a movie like Jurassic Park. Again, be sure that definite Seattle Public Library interior architecture is visible in your shot. The exterior latticework of the building is visible from all sorts of places inside, so this is a safe bet. Here is an example of what the latticework looks like from the outside, which will help you find the building too:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/b7o63pixfodskwj/2013-05-12 17.00.59.jpg?v=0swn

The list of subjects and shots required is listed later in this forum thread.

PREVIOUS RULES UPDATE: Virtual images cannot count toward your objects found. In the Washington State Convention Center, for example, if you were to find a picture of someone dressed as Mario on your tablet, and you get your picture taken holding the tablet with the Mario cosplayer displayed, that does not count. The same goes for Seattle Public Library: if you were to surf the Internet there on a PC and you find an image that meets the object requirements (including in the library's displayed catalog while searching for an object), and you get your picture taken with the PC-displayed or mobile-displayed object, it will not count.

Announcing the fourth ShadowPAX-sanctioned location: Public Space!
    Open: Daylight (my assumption)
Address: 7th Ave & Pine St, Seattle 98101

During ShadowPAX, come here to run and participate in improvisatory games!

I have taken a picture of this location to help you with identification of the space (it's at the northern corner of 7th Ave & Pine St, southwest of Dragonfish Asian Café):

I am loving this idea. I was only able to get a pass for Friday, but was planning on staying in Seattle Thurs-Tues anyway, so I definitely want to be involved in this. I don't know enough about Seattle or my schedule to plan any events, but as we get close to the day, I may be able to throw my hat in as a DM for some tabletop games, and provide some card/board games. (Specifically, Munchkin. I got lots of Munchkin.)

Pin Trades:2x Full Prime Core Sets, Core Set 2012, Chandra East, CTS Gabe (2013), Zombie Tycho(2013), Merch(2012 or 2013), Prime Kemper, Pigglesworth, Pinny Arcade Logo(2013), Hanna
Pin Needs:Tabletop Tycho, Pax East Kemper, Pax East Logo, Aus Core Set

Announcing the fifth ShadowPAX-sanctioned location and second (and perhaps other) ShadowPAX-sanctioned mainline and side quest(s): The Raygun Lounge!
    Website: http://www.gammaraygamestore.com/
    Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Raygun-Lounge/350346401718425?fref=ts
Open: Estimated Noon to Midnight during PAX, Friday, August 30th through Monday, Sept 2nd (Yes! Open Labor Day!)
Mainline quest(s) time(s): TBD (events can be penciled in, but nothing can be cemented until at least July 15th)
    Address: 501 E Pine St, Seattle 98122
    Lounge capacity: 60 people

Some major events of ShadowPAX will occur at The Raygun Lounge, where the 21-and-over crowd can purchase food and drink while getting their games on! And, yes, there is a decent free games library to borrow board and card games from to play in case you don't have any to play although the sixth-sanctioned location, (spoiler: Gamma Ray Games), carries games for purchase too, and it's less than a block away!

You can sound off in the ShadowPAX associated Yahoo group thread with what events you would like to see here (please think of each event as a block of four hours) and when you would like to see them, but this is all tentative. The key thing about this venue is that it will include events that do not require a PAX pass, but because there is at least a possibility of PAX activity at this venue as well, events here will attempt to maintain a PAX focus when possible. What this means is that PAX has priority in its wishes regarding any activities in this venue. Or in a brief restatement to be even more clear, the desires of PAX will always be considered and the schedule revisited as necessary.

Although it probably does not need to be said, please remember to be responsible in this business space. It is important for all fans to make each other feel safe, comfortable and well-treated as much as the business strives to do the same for each and every one of its clientele.

Below are some links to pictures of the interior of The Raygun Lounge from where my girlfriend and I sat to play Gloom and We Didn't Playtest This At All on our last visit, along with a picture that includes the sign that mentions the free games library and part of the top shelves of the library. While you could request that I take a picture of the full library on my next stop over there so that you will know what all games are available, I am certain that there were some games in circulation while we were there and probably always will be.

Announcing the sixth ShadowPAX-sanctioned location [and perhaps the location of some smaller ShadowPAX-sanctioned mainline and/or side quest(s)]: Gamma Ray Games!
    Website: http://www.gammaraygamestore.com/
    Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/GammaRayGames?fref=ts
Open: Estimated Noon to Midnight during PAX, Friday, August 30th through Monday, Sept 2nd (Yes! Open Labor Day!)
Quest(s)? time(s): TBD (events can be penciled in, but nothing can be cemented until at least July 15th)
    Address: 411 E Pine St, Seattle 98122
Quests capacity: 16 people at two tables

In case you glossed over the fifth ShadowPAX-sanctioned location, this sister shop is less than a block away from The Raygun Lounge, and you can buy games here to play there if you see anything that suits your fancy!

There is an auxiliary space that can be used for gaming, so quests could potentially be scheduled here to the tune of 8-16 people maximum.

By the way, this is not a 21-and-over space, so you should consider this when scheduling any events. Although it probably does not need to be said, please remember to be responsible in this business space. It is important for all fans to make each other feel safe, comfortable and well-treated as much as the business strives to do the same for each and every one of its clientele.

It is my pleasure to announce that ShadowPAX now has a consultant to aid us in an unofficial capacity to procure more venues in the Seattle area for events. What this means is that any events that you want to run when we feel the crunch of space can be brought before the consultant who may be able to suggest additional local Seattle venues beyond those that have been sanctioned by ShadowPAX along with knowledge of possible key contacts at those venues or a willingness to introduce you to a business or to alleviate complications within reason. Because I value the consultant's participation so highly, even in this unofficial capacity, I will vet your event requests, or appoint someone to vet your event requests, before putting you in contact with the consultant. If they are well-thought out ideas, I can't foresee any issues with putting you in contact, though.

@WearyTraveler, I'm glad that we will be able to meet some of your "What do I do with this extra time?" need, and I sincerely hope that we can meet everyone's needs in this manner for any who were unable to purchase passes in addition to any with PAX passes who want to help organize and/or get in on the extra opportunities. Regarding any games that you want to run, sure, that is great! Right about now, we sure could use some additional help in organizing or scheduling events and overseeing that no venue gets overbooked. I'm going to post it as a volunteer position in the original post (OP), but if you are interested in this possibility or any of the other current posts that we need to fill, please let me know!

ShadowPAX planning meeting (tentative, depending on interest; start time around 7:30 PM): Thursday, August 29th
Meeting would begin at Rumba for dinner and drinks and discussion would revolve around what everyone wants to do on the following days so that a penciled scheduled would be available for referral.
Gaming would follow at Seattle GameWorks (play Thursday nights until close for $10).

A thread will be created in the ShadowPAX Yahoo group for roll call and head count.

A tentative final schedule for "a path" through ShadowPAX is available at the associated facebook page, one event page for each day. All scheduled days incorporated interesting forumer events and parties where I could fit them in with what has already been planned. Please feel free to invite your friends on the facebook pages since that's what they are for.

As previously mentioned, any events scheduled for my apartment are on an invite, first-come basis, which you can coordinate for you and your friends with me as the days progress, preferably through the associated Yahoo group. Sooner is better since it will likely be impossible to get a hold of me starting on Thursday night, August 28th, unless you plan on meeting me along the tentatively scheduled path. Please see the Final OP Edit to this thread for many details of the overall ShadowPAX coordination. Here are individual links to the tentative event pages, cumulatively gathered at the main page, http://www.facebook.com/ShadowPAX2013/events:

I've finally finished posting all of my photos and videos for ShadowPAX 2013 on its related facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/ShadowPAX2013. You can see them at this page by linking to Events and then linking to the day that you want to read about. To read about events in the order that they occurred, start from the bottom of a page and read the posts in an upward direction.

Regardless of whether or not you had attended anything ShadowPAX-related, I am curious to know what you think about how everything turned out for it, so please post that on the main facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ShadowPAX2013. Even if you were not with me, did you participate in any of the ShadowPAX-sanctioned locations or plans, perhaps at other times than I did? Please post your photos on the respective ShadowPAX Events pages so that I know how everything turned out for you.

My own thoughts are that, after having the experience of running this multi-day event this year, I will likely not renew it for next year. For myself, the effort of scheduling and so on far outweighed the benefit due to lack of participation from even the parties that had initially expressed interest. Somewhat expecting this be the case for this year, however, I was not disappointed in how everything turned out, and I am certainly glad that I did get to participate in multiple para-PAX venues without a pass. If you want to see this multi-day ShadowPAX event renewed for next year, I am more than willing to hand over the reigns to the interested parties since I only organized it initially so that I would have something to do this year without a PAX pass.

Finally, I would like to extend thanks to those who did help me in various capacities to get this idea off of the ground. First and foremost, I would like to thank the PAX forum moderators for allowing me to use an official forum thread to propose and promote this event to PAX attendees with passes and those unfortunates who were unable to buy passes through the proper channels. I also want to thank Eric Logan for his allowance for events at Raygun Lounge and elsewhere that did not require a PAX pass during PAX. Last but not least, I want to thank the PAX forumers who helped me take my initial steps in getting this event going. Regarding these last, you know who you are, and I thank you sincerely.

Unfortunately, the facebook page for ShadowPAX 2013 has been taken down. If you did not get to see all of the photos and videos from the event there, I am sorry. Since I had not created the page, I had no control over its dissolution. Perhaps at some point I will recreate the recap elsewhere, although undoubtedly some details have been forgotten by me now.
