Today's grey weather has me digging this demo. Nothing really innovative, but well executed black/doom with great melancholy melodies.
Also, what does the metal thread like for doomy death metal albums? More along the lines of Asphyx or Incantation than the melodic doom/death of early Katatonia or Opeth. I've been listening to an unhealthy amount of Onward to Golgotha lately.

The Obliteration album from a year or two ago, Black Death Horizon has those thick as hell riffs like early Autopsy and a bit of that Incantation heaviness. I also really liked last year's Incantation album, but I'm sure you've probably checked that out already.
If you're looking for more doom than death, I really dig both of the Hooded Menace full lengths that I've heard.
Also, holy shit, I can finally cross off "smoke a joint while Electric Wizard plays 'Funeralopolis'" from the ol' bucket list.

New Storyteller (Sacred Fire):
Pretty heavy Swedish PM that takes as much from HM and SM, as PM. Not your average syrupy wanna-be Sonata Arctica euro-pop/power. Reminds me a bit of Attacker and Satan and some of the other really good retro-HM, in that while it is not terribly innovative either in construction and execution/production, it still manages to contain well written tunes. Also could be characterized as a non-wolf themed and less cheesy Powerwolf, or Pharoah without the Prog elements and a touch of Epic atmosphere. Basically, if you like Pharoah, Attacker, Satan or Powerwolf, then this is probably up your alley.

@Campy - did you check out The Septycal Gorge's 2014 release - Scourge Of The Formless Breed? Pretty decent Brutal DM and an improvement over their 2009 release.
New Karma Violens (Skin Of Existence - complete album below):
Decent Metalcore that borrows freely from Death/Black/Thrash/Sludge. A more structured and metallic version of your Converge/Coalesce style Metalcore, not Melodeath-Lite.

Damn that's one catchy tune! And another switch of style from the last album? The old one was sort of "film theme death" to me, many looong tracks.
I was surprised that the vid was made by an old bandmate of the drummer. Their old setup from a few years ago was a... tad different.

I saw them open for Sleep last night. It wasn't really for me. I was also essentially sober and had just worked a pretty long busy shift. I will say that their low end really was a nice sort of sonic massage. You could really feel it. My teeth were actually vibrating but in a good way.
Nope, Ancient VVisdom is some 'serious occult rock'
I've gone back and forth on the new Tribulation, some of it is great and some kind of average. I'll keep listening. I still like the first album the most, which was straight up death and thrash metal.

I guess Nick Holmes enjoyed doing growled vocals in Bloodbath and brought them back for the new Paradise Lost album, or at least this new song: https://youtu.be/F7O1z-Vw9Vc

Hmm, I kinda get what you're saying. It is a good record but it never seems to rise into the realm of real awesomeness... it just stays a very strong 3+ album so to say. Enjoyable but not really a lot of staying power?

I kinda felt the same way about this album. On one hand, there was some seriously awesome moments (like the first song, which made me freak out because that was the song they began their concert with) and then there were moments were I was telling myself that I should really like this more than I do. Overall its good but not as good as I wanted/hoped for it to be.
On a side note, what are your thoughts on the new Sigh?
Aw snap! Personal unknown faves Pariso are splitting up. :< They made some hella good noise in the meanwhile though, and appearantly have a last 12' coming out on Holy Roar soon. Shame one didn't discover them earlier but oh well. Sooner Insignificant Better certainly was a fierce lovely little thing but they made some catchier complex shit later on, as songs began creeping over the 1:30 mark, as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvpqCTE3lD8
I really thought this would be something for me but it was just too weird.
And holy shit that production? Nothing but treble?
Though speaking of grindish things, in a week or so muhfugging Cloud Rat will make their magnificent return! I'm telling you, this. Will. Be. 2015. Top 3 material!

Fuck I was just about to post that. It's so, so good.
Just picked up Grorr's new album. None of it's on youtube but it's streaming on BandCamp. Not sure if their stuff can be embedded here, but I will try:
I gotta blabber about Qliphoth for a little while here:
Cloud Rat has been a great band for some time now. That Moksha release was a powerhouse of great riffwriting and avalanching fury. But they have goddamn reinvented themselves with this, I feel like it's some "Smashing Pumkins of grind" thing going on here? I mean, every other track goes over 3 minutes (gasp!). There's a lot of different styles baked into the record this time, tempo changes abound. Shit even slows down with regular interval but still never lose that key energy! Just listen to "Udder Dust" for example. The material's either goddamn catchy or just interesting to listen to, all the goddamn time!
This album is everything I could have wished for, in the two years since Moksha. I just fucking hope they'll have time for a tour to stop by...

Yeah, they're an awesome live band, and seem pretty approachable. I'm seeing them live in a week and looking forward to it. I think this will be my 4th time seeing them.

Ahklys full length that just came out is decent. Kind of a subdued version of Dead Congregation and Teitanblood with a lot more brooding.

Every Hooded Menace full-length release is a choice slab of fucking crushing excellence.
Acid Witch is not a bad practitioner either, though a fair step down from Hooded Menace.
If for some reason you don't already own them, the first two by Obituary (Slowly We Rot - 1989 & Cause Of Death - 1990) are my personal favorite doomy OSDM (very Celtic Frost, but way more crushing). I've posted complete album 'tubes below:
