I don't like the Big Bang Theory but I try not to harsh on my sister who likes it. The time I tried to explain to her why I don't like it, I compared it to why I usually can't watch shows/movies about classical musicians, ie because I have a degree in music peformance and the things they get wrong annoy me too much to enjoy it.

Not that I have a degree in nerdery or anything.

The subversion is that, instead of just making a reference to stuff, it highlights the absurdity of making stupid pop culture references in the middle of something important.

Not that it helps much, because that whole storyline was absolutely ridiculous.

No see the thing about Big Bang Theory isn't that it gets things wrong

it has a very competent science advisory team

the thing about big bang theory is that the stories are absurd, the jokes are bad, the characters are terminally one dimensional and it's incredibly mean spirited. It features a group of friends who are genuinely assholes to each other.

It's long, but the gist is that Big Bang Theory makes nerds think it's for them, but it's really for everyone else to laugh at them

I don't care enough about the show to have an opinion one way or the other, but the article is still an interesting read
