So did anybody play Archer in beta, and what're your thoughts? I'm actually thinking about making it my main job I level because it seems like a super fun class to play. It's the only one I've tried where rather than a combo system like my Marauder, it's more about just hammering your best shots and hitting heartseeker or whatever when it pops off CD from your DoT ticks critting. Part of the thing that excites me is I think the potential to pull agro from any tank is very high with the class, so I'd get the fun of having to actually manage myself, which is sorely missing from DPSing in a lot of modern MMOs.
I do love the game between tanks and DPS.... the showoffs trying to pull aggro, the tanks priding them selves on keeping control. Fun dynamic to a party situation with friends.
I remember it well from FFXI. Been a while since I;ve since a similar situation.

I made a website for 1.0 (linked in my sig actually) for requesting and providing items. The whole idea was pretty painful in 1.0, because it was impossible to exchange items except in person. Now since you can mail items, it could be more useful, and I'd be willing to revamp the site to work with AAR.
Basic use cases:
I'm a miner. I usually end up with a lot of extra stuff that I simply don't need. I can list the stuff on the site, and people can claim it. When I get on FFXIV, I can check the site and mail claimed items to others.
I'm a blacksmith. I need a lot of ores and shards for crafting, but don't mine or anything. I can go on the site and claim items other people have listed. Then I can pick them up in my mail after they send them.
I'm a warrior. I need some SUPER SUBLIGAR 9000. I can put in a request for the item in the system. A armorsmith can claim the request, make the item, then mail it to me. I get the item in the mail and am now too sexy.

I've really enjoyed that, so far, DPS have more responsibilities than just parking and hitting buttons. Really helps keep fights fresh/interesting in dungeons.
I'd say I've had the most fun with lancer, gladiator, and marauder so far, and am currently trying to decide among the three (leaning lancer though, since I think I had the most fun with that, and we seem to have decent amounts of all three if the FC member list was any indication).
One of my favorite things in FFXI was DPSers that got too ham and got themselves killed. If this game recaptures the combat dynamic in dungeons of tanks having to work to keep agro and DPSers/healers having to manage agro as a team then that'll be a huge plus in my book.

Contact amazon support. I just ordered it straight from SE because I have always had issues with pre-order stuff from other online places I have the worst luck.
When I pre-ordered from GMG I got the code right away. If you did not get your code, you need to either call up Amazon and bitch them out, or cancel and re-order.

Oh I certainly agree. I just found it weird that you could enter a pre-order code 4 months after the game launches.
Regarding the cross-class abilities, for a lot of classes and jobs it doesn't seem like there are very many useful abilities that you could even equip. For White Mage, there are only apparently 7 cross class abilities, 1 of which is a direct copy of an ability you already have (Physick). So that means that a max level WHM would have Surecast, Swiftcast, Eye for an Eye, Virus and either Thunder or Ruin (probably Thunder). I had thought there were a lot more available, but this really isn't customization if everybody is just going to have the same things because of a lack of options.
Arcanist is even worse, you can get up to 10 slots for things, but there are only 8 available options (unless the website is wrong, which is possible). Conjurer does seem to have 24 possibilities for their 10 slots (many of which don't really benefit the class much if at all), so there is some customization possible on some of the classes. Hopefully these information websites just have incomplete data so far.

I pre-ordered a PS3 CE about a month ago from them too and never got a code. I called them yesterday and they told me emails for the pre-order were scheduled to be sent out today. I've yet to receive mine, but I'm waiting until SE is actually accepting codes before calling them again. I have a GMG pre-order code as well so I'm not particularly worried. As far as I know when you input the code won't affect the time in which you are let in for early access either.

I've no idea if it's true, but somebody earlier in this thread said you get 10 slots for cross class, but that 5 of them are used by your job if you equip one, which would explain why some jobs don't even have 10 available to them. Basically if you choose to put on a job, you're giving up half of your cross class options or more. If that's the case it might help with potential ability bloat anyway.
The idea is supposed to be that jobs are specialists and can only cross class to a few classes. IE Thaumaturge can nuke and do off healing if they want, but Black Mage can't access heals.

IF YOU GET the ERROR: 3 message, KEEP TRYING you WILL get the code eventually (it took me 4 tries only). After you get the 12 digit code you WILL get the region error, this is NOT because of a mistake YOU did, this is because they accidentally sent EVERYBODY to the JPN site to redeem the code and not the NA site. As soon as they link the proper NA site, everything should and WILL work.

The code's region is inapplicable.
You can only enter codes from the same region as your Square Enix account.
I think the majority of us in this thread have not even able to redeem the pre-order code, so.... In fact you may be the only one in this thread that has managed to get past the pre-order code part with out getting the 'There was an error, please try again later' message.
It's so funny how the fact that there's another 3 entire days to get this early access crap sorted out has not deterred me from trying like 100 times today to get mine to work. Like, psychologically I feel like I have to get it squared away as soon as possible or suddenly i'm going to miss out on early access.

Ugh, so i just submitted a ticket to get all of my account information reset, stupid security questions. Hopefully they get back to me soon because, unless im doing something way wrong i cant get to the pre-order registration site without answering a damn security question i forgot. sad face.
I caved and bought early access, for no reason other than to support a company willing to rebuild a failed MMO from the ground up and listen to their customers.
Well if the codes are giving a "wrong region" error because the NA site to redeem them isn't up yet . . . I can just wait to put in my code.
Also, sure you only get 5 cross class skills when you choose a Job, and most Jobs seem to only have 6-8 choices for those skills (usually at least 1 of which is completely pointless). My concern is that Arcanist (a regular class) is listed as having 8 potential cross class skills for 10 slots, which I hope is just a matter of incomplete information. Conjurer has like 24 choices, though many of them are not actually useful.
$22.50 is too good to pass up. if I had to pay $50 for a physical copy I'm not sure I would have gotten it. digital is like getting two more months of play time
Regarding ACN, SCH and SMN, I think we need to wait and see how they implement it. We already know from cleric stance that they can do things like flip int and mnd, so I'd be very surprised if they didn't have the whole "I want to play both summoner and scholar" thing well in hand with a similar ability. You'll probably just have to switch out gear a bit depending on the job. Like, I have a hard time believing they're going to bill you as dps for 30 levels, and then when it comes time to unlock scholar say "Welp, you're screwed because you haven't been handicapping yourself by stacking MND this whole time."
