When I first saw the Kickstarter, I was sort of skeptical. Between the concept art that was just a paintover of images they didn't have permission to use, the way they touted their team members' experience on GRAW and Halo Reach, and the fact that I've been rooting for Ground Branch for a long time and I feel like its Kickstarter failed in part because a lot of the tactical shooter money went to Takedown, which launched earlier, and also in part because Ground Branch was more realistic about the money it would take to make the game, whereas Takedown lowballed it and got lucky that 505 Games decided to publish it.
(I also don't like how the website wants my birthday in the European date format which I never notice and thus it never lets me in until I figure out what I am doing wrong.)
Stuff in the gameplay videos also looks sort of questionable. I don't like the placement of the clock on the HUD, I don't like how you drop your weapon if you're close to a wall but you can huge someone from behind without dropping the weapon, and since the game is pretty much just running around shooting people in coop or in deathmatch, I don't see what's going to make it more compelling than just playing SWAT 4 some more. Like, what does this add to the genre?
On the other hand, I think the game genuinely looks good, graphics-wise, especially on their small budget (although I feel like I'm the only one who thinks that), and what little there is in the game seems pretty competent, so if you're bored of SWAT 4 or something this seems like it would be fun. It's not like they're doing a lot wrong - it's just a basic barebones tactical shooter.
I don't think I want to spend money on it but I wish it well. I'll wait until it's either more substantive or until Ground Branch finds some money, I think.

Can't say I'm too impressed by the gameplay videos.
Kind of not a great impression to have a launch trailer that shows no gameplay and gives minimal indication of what it's actually about. Like that's a terrible trailer and looks more like a teaser.
It is pretty rough around the edges still, but me and some friends have been enjoying it. They have failed to show off a pretty major feature thus far: http://youtu.be/Gkio4rGYmZE
To me the game feels more like a mod, and less like a standalone experience that it should be. I realize it was made on a very low budget though, so that isn't really a complaint, more just an observation.
I don't regret purchasing it though, I would say I can easily get my fifteen dollars worth out of it. Much more if they improve some of the clunkier things (mainly menu interfaces and the AI).
We are working on an initial Patch to address the following issues that will be available shortly:
Connectivity and server status issues
- The correct exe will now run automatically depending upon your windows version (Win32/Win64)
- Servers will be displayed now in the Steam list to enhance visibility of games being played, plus accuracy of information being shown.
- TTS/Text to speech feature has been removed
- TAKEDOWN process now ends properly which will alleviate some server conflicts.
In addition, here is a workaround for the misleading ‘Your connection to the host has been lost” error message from Single player games:
This error message occurs when the game mode is switched from Multiplayer to Single player and is being addressed for a future fix. The message is a belated alert from the aborted Multiplayer session and is not referencing your current single player game status.
If you want to switch to single player mode after playing multiplayer, or attempting to enter a multiplayer game – until the next patch arrives, restart the game to avoid seeing this error message.
Also, for convenience - Here are the steps to accessing your pre-order content
1. Main Menu > Help & Options / Codes
2. Type code, Click submit.
3. Press ESC to back up to Main Menu
4. Choose Play > Single Player
5. Choose GAME MODE > Tango Hunt > MAP > Killhouse
If you preordered the game, a .txt file containing your Killhouse Unlock code is located in your steam directory.
64 bit systems - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Takedown Red Sabre\Pre-Order Killhouse Unlock Code.txt
32 Bit systems - C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Takedown Red Sabre\Pre-Order Killhouse Unlock Code.txt
While we continue to resolve the outstanding issues please refer to the following links for more details as potential work-arounds:
This is our first step addressing the issues that some players are finding with the game. We locked down these issues because they were the most efficient ones we could implement to help get folks up and running. More on the way! We're currently "Triaging" issues as they come in.
The community/gamers who've been taking the time to narrow down these issues have been super helpful and are much appreciated. Please stay tuned for more updates.

Though it suffers from a complete lack of players and also being basically mod quality production as well.
Also a couple of the maps are just nightmarishly awful. The one where the marines have to fight up a hill into the city proper and has a road littered with abandoned vehicles on their left hand side of the map is just a pure meat grinder.

They also managed to reach the top ten in sales for a few brief moment recently. Nicely done Serellan. 8-)
Also, I changed the thread title but I don't like it that much. Suggestions welcome.
EDIT: Game is on metacritic now. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/takedown-red-sabre/user-reviews
Also, an update was pushed to the backers. I hope it's something good.

Anyone know how long it takes to get approved on XBLA after submission?
It seems the killhouse thing they did was a community event.

Launch trailer. Steam just needs to release the game into the wild.

Agreed. But hopefully they can get a real budget next time. Kickstarter doesn't do miracles.
