We talk about superheroes in here.

Upcoming superhero movies include, but are not limited to:

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iXhv7CoLAOo

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=NLWsK1ZFunA

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Dredd 2: The Dreddening*

*May not actually exist**
**But darn it, it should

There are also other nifty things, like Marvel's Daredevil show, coming to Netflix in 2015. You should talk about superheroes, because they are cool.

I had to undermine your catchphrase

Take comfort in knowing that probably no one will ever bother to get the writers to contradict it

Someone before the last one closed and asked what the next MU TV show should be. It should be Elsa Bloodstone - Monster Hunter. Basically make it a mix of Buffy and Indiana Jones with her traveling the world and fighting horrific monsters and edlrich abominations. Self-contained and would help show the magical and weird side of Marvel. Her origin story is super easy to show

Another thing: consider that poor Ace, while quite strong, was abused and mistreated and neglected until Bruce came in.

Now am I talking about the rescue dog or the psychic god?

So I'm spending this lonesome Friday evening making my way through a re-watching of Hercules: the Legendary Journey, which by the way is an awesome 'Ancient Superman' tv show, when I go to thinking...

Has there ever been an examination of the DC top-tier heroes as analogues to the Greek pantheon?

    Superman -- Hercules
    Batman -- Hades
    Wonder Woman -- Athena
    Aquaman -- Poseidon
    Plastic Man -- Dionysus
    The Flash -- Hermes

After those I sort of run out of ideas, but thoughts?

    No, @Zonugal
I'm sure nobody has ever compared DC heroes to Greek myth

Volstagg is part of the warriors three. Ares is the god of war. Warriors wage war. Therefore Ares is Volstagg's god

Volstagg isn't really a god, he's just an Asgardian Thor hangs out with. Not all Asgardians were worshipped as gods.

And I love Ares but Thor is pretty clearly the best god, followed by Herc, followed by Ares.

Remender was actually gonna bring Ares back instead but realized Sentry had more potential as death and a more personal vendetta due to Thor killing him.

    is the sentry death?

i assumed the grim reaper was death

and it would be laughable not to make ares war

i guess daken is pestilence because pheromones and banshee is famine because famine is hard okay

They are all Death. The Apocalypse Twins jacked death seeds from various timelines and cut out the middleman due to Death being the only important Horseman.

    that is fucking fantastic

(what's a death seed? i really have no idea how apocalypse works)

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
Basically vessels of power the Celestials left on Earth that Apocalypse uses to make Death

You can tell the Apoc Twins are not aware of Warhammer 40k.

The blood god will always rule. Death is a by product of war. But when the lords of Chaos need a planet cleansed of all life in a day. Blood will flow and thrones of skulls will be constructed.

  • Bluedude152Bluedude152 Registered User regular
    But Warhammer 40k is stupid

Plus blood isnt exactly a horseman of the apocalypse

remender's uncanny avengers is everything i wish hickman's not uncanny avengers was

just the perfect kind of comic book impossible science

i really appreciate that there's no attempt whatsoever to rationalize it, you just gotta roll with what he gives you

the death seed stuff is all from his Uncanny X-Force run.

So are there famine seeds? War seeds? Pestilence seeds?

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
No, Death is a special case as Death is the successor to Apocalypse. If Big A dies then Death begins to change due to the death seed in order to take the throne.

Basically, Remender is simply cutting out the middleman and giving us for of the only Horseman that anybody cares about. Now, I think that simply betrays the weakness of the concept itself, but a lot of other people are enjoying it, so whatever.

The 97 JLA was flat out set up as the Greek pantheon.

Which Garth Ennis Punisher were you recommending, specifically? There seems to be a few of them.

I started reading Thunderbolts, and I'm really not a fan of this artist. Apparently there's a good chance he did this Punisher run, so I'm not sure about this...

    uyvfOQy.png
  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
Steve Dillon's art fits Punisher better than Thunderbolts but it still isn't really great

So that Disney teenager cross-over thing The Descendants?

It is being directed by the guy who did High School Musical.

So chances of that being good are dropping rapidly.
