There's a thing that happens when the infallible voice of God tells a deeply religious person that if this shit doesn't stop, the entire nation is going to Hell.

Edit: I mean at that point you have to start watching your back around some of your officers.

If I recall correctly, It was the assassination attempt on him that drove him to batfuck bonkers security and concern over his health and his officers. Wasn't it that he was the only one to give the order to have tanks move to somewhere, and he delayed the order on D-Day because he was sleeping?

Actually the assasnination attempt convinced him that he had the protection of God. Also the movement of the tanks wasn't delayed because they couldn't get authorization; the movement wasn't allowed at all because Hitler was convinced Patton would lead a second landing across the Dover Strait.

    What, Pas De Calais?

    What, Pas De Calais?

Yes. One of the great intelligence victories of the war was that they had the German high command convinced that Patton would lead the invasion, and that he would land at Calais. It wasn't until August, when they realized that Patton was already tearing across France, that they moved the forces defending Calais.

Catholics don't consider the pope "the infallible voice of God." On very, very rare occasions a pope will make a statement that's considered infallible. These are the two statements all Catholic theologians agree are infallible:

    1. Mary didn't have original sin.

    2. the assumption of Mary into heaven.

There are a few other that they argue about, mostly dealing with dogma like "Jesus is both God and Man."

The Crusades took place in a time when people had a completely different attitude towards religion. They took religion SERIOUSLY. More seriously than the most serious fundamentalist alive today. (IMO, this was due in part to an inability to understand the world empiracally. They believed that bees spontaneously generated from oxen, for crying out loud.)

Yeah, but no-one else is claiming the infallible backing of god.

You're just flailing around randomly at this point, huh?

I just expect better from someone who claims to be a man of god. If the church believed the Nazi's policies were wrong before they came into power, they should have continued to oppose them after they won. I'm not saying they could have stopped the Nazis, I just think they could have tried harder.

Oh, and if think this is random flailing, check out my post history. This is nothing. :P

I'm tired of repeating myself. Reading comprehension would be a great advantage to you.
