Germs are a really weird can of worms in the workplace. 99% of germs you run into are harmless things that are already in your system anyways. Half of the remaining 1% is bacteria that has about a 1% chance to harm you, and the other half are viruses that have about a 1% chance to harm you. The issue is there are like a billion of them in a square inch.

One thing that's really driving me nuts lately are all the people who use Purell more than like 3 or 4 times a day. If your body doesn't get any contact with harmful pathogens or toxins your immune system is in for a catastrophic shock when you finally are exposed to it in a situation beyond your control. We've been wrecking our kids' immune systems with all this super powerful disinfectant antibacterial soap, when they should be eating worms and boogers and dirt. I mean, they should eat some other things, too, but there's a reason kids have an impulse to eat boogers.

Well the reason they all want to eat boogers is that they get told they taste like chicken.

    And all kids love chicken.

well it's not actually that bad for your immune system, you're still exposed to plenty of germs

the problem is that it creates a system wherein germs that are resistant to germ-killing substances are being selected for

    and that's unwise

If the purpose of nose hair is to filter out harmful air particles, it only makes sense that the body would require partial exposure to even the particles that get filtered away so it can start building appropriate countermeasures in case said bacteria, virus, parasite or bacillus infiltrates the body. So, the brain turns on the Bat Signal, telling you that you crave some boogers (much like how you will suddenly crave oranges, limes or lemons when you are low on vitamin C).

VW workers in Tennessee vote against having union representation
In a stunning defeat that could accelerate the decades-long decline of the United Auto Workers, employees voted against union representation at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which had been regarded as organised labour’s best chance of expanding in the US south.

An official overseeing the vote, retired Tennessee circuit court judge Sam Payne, said a majority had voted against UAW representation by 712 to 626. About 89% of workers voted, he said.
While voting was under way on Wednesday, Republican senator Bob Corker said VW would make new investments in the plant if the UAW lost the ballot.

"I've had conversations today and based on those am assured that should the workers vote against the UAW, Volkswagen will announce in the coming weeks that it will manufacture its new mid-size SUV here in Chattanooga," said Corker, without saying with whom he had the conversations.

In the past few weeks, Volkswagen officials have made several statements that the vote will have no bearing on whether the SUV will be made at the Chattanooga plant or at a plant in Puebla, Mexico.

Yes, the old 'dangle a carrot and then beat with a stick' method of labor management.

Despite it's constant erosion of the trust between employees and owners, I'm sure it will all work out this time and usher in a new era of enlightenment in the workplace.

Doesn't matter, since you can always fire anyone that looks grumpy for whatever reason you want (as long as you can word it in a way that doesn't violate the very very few protected groups) and hire new peons from the millions of people currently looking for a job.

Does Australia need hard-working American ex-pats with a desperate need for food, clothing, shelter and basic social services? What about Canada?

    Because I know some folks.

So tonight was "fun" , I'm basically still twitching in anxiety. Because this is what I was delivering in tonight.
    2014-03-01

There was no snow on the ground this morning, this started around 2pm, is still going.

We also had every single person try and complain about long delivery times, while then being told how fast pickup would be, and then basically get yelled at by customer for suggesting they drive in this. Well god dammit pick a side, like we want to be driving in this for your 25 cent tips.

This kind of thing is beyond illegal and stretches right into Ernst Stavro Blofeld territory; one is either stroking a snow-white persian kitty or a big red LAUNCH button or oneself.

If all three are happening concurrently, then one is (in point of fact) The Antichrist.

Nothing fucks up employee morale like dicking around with their paycheques. Especially if they're on the lower end of the payscale and living from cheque to cheque.

If you don't want someone to sneak some kiddy porn onto your harddrive and then place an anonymous phonecall to the feds, you pay your staff the correct amount at the correct time, or at least have the self-awareness to not be surprised when your house gets a couple of dozen rotten eggs thrown at it, and a gallon of bleach is poured all over your car.

Now what we used to do is wait until the storm got really bad, then called in and more often than not got free pizzas because no one wanted to go out driving to deliver them or pick them up but they were already made and we were well equipped (stupid) enough to go pick them up.

I really hate my job! All i get is do all the dishes! Do this! Clean all those tables up! Pathetic customers always say I didn't order this! I want a plate! I want a dressing! Clean that table off for me! Then I have to do all the dumb dishes! Coworkers are lazy and play on their phones and sit down and when I do I get can you clean this, this and this! You can't sit down! Today some stupid kids were slamming the doors and I told the parents and get you can't do that! Well I don't care! I hate working at where I am! I hate customers so much! They whine all the time and treat you like you are their maid! I don't get paid a lot and some of my coworkers do! But the managers don't care! They have favorites and I do the dishes, clean tables! Run food and clean the bathroom with no help! I want to quit! !
