I just finished chapter four yesterday and I assume
That your actual SP count is irrelevant because it doesn't have the counter at the bottom of the screen when you're supposed to press start.

So I've been playing this quite a bit (I'm in chapter 5) and have been wondering why I never saw anyone from my friends list in game, even though I knew at least a couple people were playing it. I had tried adding friends from the save menu, but it just told me my friends list was full so I figured that was just another way to input friend codes. So then I assumed Update Data would be the only thing I had to do to get friends to show up, but that obviously wasn't doing anything.

Today I decide to just delete one friend and see what happens. Low and behold I now have a whole fleet of Moon battleships. A bunch of them are level 1, but still. Wish I had tried that weeks ago.

I thought someone said that in Chapter 3 you unlock the ability to exchange those points you get in the silly chomp game for gold. I'm in Chapter 5 now and still haven't seen it pop up.

I found the place but I caant find any interaction that lets me sell them
Its called Chompshire and its hidden in a southernmost tip of the continent where Yulyana lived, buried deep in Forest and can only be found by walking to it. You can park your airship near the river and then walk south.

I have to say after the first few asterisk choices that really were sort of a moral conundrum, the last few have been like just "what asterisk do you want?"
Should Sherlock be a PI or a cop?
    or
Should old music be able to be remixed?

Just not quite as engaging as the atomic energy or who should get the food?

Lately, I've just really not been all that engaged by the story. Through mid-chapter 3:
I mean, I feel all thats happened so far is the skyhold is flying around "kind-of" attacking crystals and causing mayhem, but it really doesn't feel threatening or that much is really at stake. The only major plot point was just at the end of the prologue when the attack/betrayal happened. The rest has just been "run after the skyhold". And even the sense of adventuring/exploring is kind of taken away since the majority of these places we've visited before, and many of the characters we've met before.

Color me mildly disappointed so far.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett

Y'know, it's funny, but JRPGs, among the least active genre of games you can imagine, frequently have the most rippin' awesome battle themes.

    ***

My hope for the third game is that the Salve-Maker/Patissier BP engine gets nerfed somehow, possibly by amending BP Recovery with a clause that says that it has to be an enemy that inflicts the status ailment.

    I mean, you invest this:

    - On one character: two passive ability slots (BP Recovery, Items For All) and the secondary job ability (Patissier). Optionally, add Waste Not to cut PG cost.
    - On the remaining characters: one passive ability slot (BP Recovery)
    - ~1500 PG per round, (750 PG on average if Waste Not is used)
    - One character's ability to take multiple actions (the Patissier)

For that, you get the ability to take four actions in a turn with all three of your other characters, with no other limitations. One of those actions can even be a BP action, if you choose to invest a second pie-toss as part of your Patissier's action. But if you don't, you also get a regular action with your Patissier.

I'm aware that there are probably other infinite BP setups, and I'd actually rather those were avoided somehow as well (the interplay of Brave and Default is pretty core to the battle system). But the cake engine strikes me as particularly egregious in terms of benefit gained for effort expended.

Oh, and I knew that the sidquests had been rewritten to be fluffier, but holy shit, the way the one in Grapp Keep ends:
In the original version, when you side with Artemia, you wind up eating Bahamut to survive. D:

On the other hand, the Patissier engine takes a fair amount of the game to get ready, If you're not grinding too much. I think it a good thing for you to be able to get to the point of extremely powerful late in the game.

Especially if, like in the first game, there's challenges that can still challenge you when you have it. I'd say there's stuff in both games that is even more broken, like quad rage in the first game, or Astrologian in this one.

Some like those, I'm just gonna have to close my eyes, and just hit start to skip through some of the endings that are just kinda hard to think about. For getting those next go round, I think a better way to get them, would have been to just have the asterisk you sided with (if you sided with the same one twice) just give you their asterisk. I dunno, maybe they feel bad for having to make you choose or something, even though you chose their side.

I should note, when I say "the original version", I'm talking the original Japanese script that got modified after fan outcry that the sidequests were all miserably depressing. I'm not talking about first-loop versus second-loop. In the English version, everyone survives no matter what path you choose.

why must i grind out the new jobs as i get them. i've had this game for a few weeks and i think i'm only in chapter 3?
i just had to turn against alternis because come on dude, 100000 percent taxes will never work
loving the game again but i almost wish they didn't have the old jobs and just reinvented a few of them in unique ways with all the new jobs they added.

They did reinvent some of them. Spell Fencer, Salve Maker, and Vampire got replaced. Can't remember if any others did as well. They also nerfed abilities here and there, like how Time Mage no longer has Hasten World but still manages to compete for the title of most powerful caster class.

i poorly worded my statement. i wish they didn't bring back any of the old classes as is and just reinvented a few more to fill out the roster. Its not a major complaint because i love having the variety but the new classes were fun enough to play around with that i think its almost a detractor to have the old ones. Surely they could have done Burglar that was like thief but didn't get mug but instead got disguise or something :)

I was a bit miffed that I couldn't run Hasten World + Low Leverage again but I can totally understand why it was removed. In the end I never really had a BP generation alternative in place but thanks to how many 9999s a single character can pump out in one shot it doesn't matter.

Meteor rain seems like it makes every other offensive build kind of useless. I mean, that's a lot of damage right there

Couldn't you get as much damage, for less MP, by using summoning rain and having a Patissier inflict an elemental weakness?

Also, I'm quite amused that the best damage setup in this game still doesn't quite reach the heights you could achieve in Default with Low Leverage Rage.

You can easily use Meteor + Rain + Chain Cast + Echo and if you even need it have an astrologist buff magic attack without having to worry about applying debuffs. And for absolute overkill you can also use ventriloquist rain so you can have 2 other mages casting 4 meteor rains each from a ghost state while your double shield auto-undo auto-revive status immune tank cheers them on from their unbreakable front row seat.

Physical builds also get to have fun with mass attack strategies too so it's all about what particular flavor of broken you enjoy.

See, I prefer summon because my team already has a Patissier, for BP engine shenanigans. It all comes down to preference.

It does mean I can't use Echo and Chaincast together, though.

Wait, or could I? I forget how many slots Echo uses.

  • Options
TalithTalith 変態という名の紳士 Miami, FLRegistered User regular
Two. So if you want spellcraft + chaincast + echo you are going to have to be either the spellcraft job or the echo job and slot the other two. That means your subjob is either summoner or time mage, depending on what you like to cast. I was enjoying the echo job just because it has the ja level elemental spells and other goodies while time mage gives me quick, auto revive, and meteor. But that's also because I couldn't be bothered to hunt down summoning spells this time around (but was oddly OK with hunting down the sins).

Dang. My BP strategy revolves around the red Mage ability that gives you a BP when you suffer a status ailment, so I have to choose between Echo or Chainspell.

The funny thing about hunting down the summons is that if you take Blademaster those guys just hand over a katana when you find them.
Not sure if that applies to the guy in the Mausoleum with Susano-o, as I had both jobs by the time I had access to that place.
