Shortcut/desktop management (argh)

Short and sweet; I've got too many shortcuts and useless junk on my desktop which I just know I'll miss if I delete them; I need a way to manage them all before I go insane and my wallpaper is useless, and that isn't through the Start bar, and doesn't take too much memory.

I'm thinking of a widget (preferably not Yahoo) or something, any ideas?

    Just use folders marked Games, Apps etc

    Then, right click the start bar and enable the Desktop item, and you have a sort of useful way to access them from a branching tree menu thing.

    I'd really prefer to not use the Start bar. It just doesn't feel quick, or ergonomic at all. Besides, desktop folders still clutter the screen a bit.

    tbh honest then, there isn't too much you can do.

    And I meant the taskbar, not the start bar. Sorry, I use a Mac 99% of the time. (speaking of which, is there anything like Quicksilver for Windows? That'd fix it)

    On one of my searches of the net to style my pc I came across some shareware that added a function like the mac bar where all the programs are. But I can't remember what the site was

    It's called ObjectDock, and it's the reason I'm posting this - last week it deleted all my shortcuts, some of which went to places I can't remember how to get to anymore (160 gigs of stuff here :( ) and now I need a replacement. Besides, I was never too fond of the bar. If I could design my own, I'd have one little icon which, when you moused over it, it displayed a little table-thing (like an inventory, if you will) of all my apps, and then I could click on it to close it.

    But that's fairly unlikely, which I why I maek post.

    Just asking, are you being serious or taking the piss? That could be taken both ways, and I'm sorry if you're not.

    Most of the apps I'm talking about don't even show up in the 'all programs' tab, oddly enough.

    Then put them there. It takes me less than half a second to start Firefox.

    Damn, beaten by mrcheesypants!

    I was just about to suggest Launchy. It was suggested off this forum a month ago or so, and I fell in love with it. Other than some initial problems with getting it to actually index the things I wanted, it's worked like a charm. It's really easy to use, and I find myself lost without it on other computers now.
