Just beat Persona Q, wow, did not expect so many feels at the end of this.
Those final battles were buuullshit though. I beat them first try but I was very close to running out of items and SP. And I had completely stocked up beforehand.
Finished at level 71.
I'm going to give it a break before going through on the P3 side.
It feels really weird, but I went ahead and turned on the auto-wall-mapping. I feel like I've committed some sort of EO sin. But this seems to be pretty light and breezy so far, at least compared to the mainline games. They even automatically put down the correct shortcut tags, and change them if you turn a one-way path into a two-way path. Same for tracking opened chests, doors, etc. Maybe if later dungeons start getting really nutty with the layouts and tricks I'll go back to doing it all by hand, just to be safe.
I'd feel worse about the wall-mapping if the game didn't have the treasure chests that force you to walk on every map tile. In EO, I would often draw rooms and paint in the floor while only actually walking along the walls looking for secret passages.

Heretic.
Yeah, I did the same in Etrian. Remember though that you can always use play coins to open those chests. Just try to get it relatively close to 100% and it should be pretty cheap. Of course, that's coming someone who doesn't use those for anything else. Just don't force yourself to run onto damage tiles or fight all the FOEs on the floor just to open a chest.
For the MC, yeah. Max magic and give him the Dance spells, Almighty stuff later. Your sidekick in the hat will wind up using all of the good physical skills.
Against my better judgement I started playing Devil Survivor Overclocked even though I still haven't finished Persona Q.
IIRC Magic is the way to go in that game, right?
It's not that Magic is exceptionally better than Physical. It's that the game gives you way more Magical than Physical skills, only one Pierce skill, and you'll always have at least one competent physical party member. It's hard to have two good physical characters in one team with the game's skill economy.
Almighty Spells, Drain, and Magic Yang! Almighty spells on his demons.
Spam until the level is the clear or you're out of MP, then spam Drain until you can start again.
I just got to the 7th day for my DS:O.
Path spoilers below
I chose Naoya's route. I have not been into this replay- I'm realizing now why I never replayed the original version of this game: I hate all the characters!
Cut to day 7, and I pick my route. Turns out we're on our way to kill God. This I can get behind. Everyone I don't like leaves my team- Awesome!
And then a Black Frost joins you- okay, DS:O. The last 22 hours have all been worth it and I'm sorry I said mean things. Best route ever.
Overclocked can be a dick though, especially with some of the victory conditions. RNG and Ally AI can be a hell of a thing. I've found myself basically save scumming thanks to the suspend feature.
For leveling, I tend to spend time between fights running all the free battles until I've cracked all the skills, then usually a few more times to grind macca.
If I can fuse a good demon (aiming for multiple resistances, at the very least covering a demon's built in weaknesses), I'll buy another copy right from the compendium, and if I had to spend a demon I liked I'll grind until I can afford to resummon it.
Sorry if you're a MegaTen vet or something and this all basic advice. DS2 is one of my favorite games, and I'm jut coming back to Overclocked this week so I feel your pain.

I'm basically familiar with how the games are played, more or less. Most of my losses come from NPCs who get themselves killed or apparently one guy fleeing somehow prevents us from saving the world. Also some fights have massive increases in incoming damage for no given reason.
Not really a big spoiler (just mechanics questions)
1. Does the game always prompt you to kill FOEs? I don't want to skip story bits but I know the game introduces you to FOR murderizing after you open up the second labyrinth. I went ahead and killed one of the painting cards too - should I have waited? I had the quest for the non-painting cards only...
2. Do FOEs respond? How/when? There's no passing of time so I don't know how that would work...

You only get quests for some of them, and they do respawn eventually, so feel free to murder away if you think you can take them. The sooner the better, really, since the gear you unlock will get outleveled eventually.
That's the second dungeon beaten...I think I actually overleveled because he just melted. Or maybe that was just because kanji was hitting 400 damage with a crit.
Basically what I'm saying is fuck magic. Beat things to death with a chair.

I think that second boss is just easy.
Then again, he had some gimmick going on where he banned stuff, but I never figured out what that entailed, since I never need to use anything he banned.
Shame you can't replay these bosses, the bosses that replace them are waaaay less interesting/fun.

Okay thanks. Is there a specific trigger on their respawn?

Oh. That's easy.
Each of the 4 coffins corresponds to a command, Red is attack, Yellow is skills, Green is items, and blue is support command
And yeah, he was easy, but I'm going through the third dungeon now just bludgeoning shit to death and having Naoto instakill everything. I mean, I suppose I'll eventually run into something that is resistant to physical, but Eh. I'll have the P3 MC switch to a magic persona, and have him, Yukari and Naoto take the heavy lifting.

Not sure. I think it's just number of times in and out of a dungeon.

To be more specific, I believe FOEs respawn each time you leave a labyrinth, much like Power Spots. Makes it fairly easy to farm up Personas and materials if you need them.

Finished my first Overclocked run. Route was a little different than I expected it to be.
I'm confused by the 8th day vs Clear Data option, however. If I play through the 8th day, do I lose out on any titles and the ability to create clear data after completing the 8th day? It made it seem like I wouldn't be able to do a NG+ if I chose to play the 8th day.

Also: Yuzu's voice actress is incredibly annoying. Like, god damn.

Escort quests, which are like 90% of missions, are carefully designed trolls.

I don't remember typing Black Frost.
