I hope we're seeing 'first half of a movie' clips here, and it would be really cool if they left it at that.
I was reading a recent interview with someone involved in some Nolan movies - a producer? Can't remember the name - who talked about surprises in films, and how it would be cool to really surprise an audience again. I'd like this to be that movie.

To be honest I get a Contact vibe from that trailer, like it's hiding something terrible.
It does have a nice premise and I do like Nolan, I'm just wary that instead of something new it will be bogged down with seen before stuff. For once I'd like to see the kids go "Dad you're going to be the pilot who saves the world that's great! Go do it don't worry about us!"
I'm excited, but I'd like it more if it were actually about humanity figuring out how to leave Earth (as Michael Caine suggests) rather than saving it. Maybe it will be but I'm getting the vibe it isn't, this is Nolan but it's still massive budget Hollywood and a mass exodus of Earth would result in abandoning the vast majority of human beings (unless the writing becomes contrived). That's just a bit too dark.

What I got from that is that Earth is lost and he'll never be back.
I figured since time is a flat circle, ol' Rust will inevitably end up back on earth no matter what he does, again and again.
More seriously, I'm inexplicably optimistic about Interstellar after this trailer and I really hope they can pull off something special. Or at least different.
If they can recreate the feel and atmosphere of the first one, so down indeed!
Edit: Oh fuck, I just remembered I put the first one on media ignore status, eight months before it came out. Now I have to carefully avoid any spoilers or revealing arguments about a sequel for a good deal of time before getting to see it.
Tbh it kinda looks like a run-of-the-mill crap horror flick but I've got a soft spot for "memetic plague" concepts and if there's some supernatural shit on top of that, all the better. Plus, cop procedurals are ok in my book. Might be a decent hangover watch if we're lucky.
The trailer is pretty good except for the trying to scare me with loud sounds and flashes of "scary" things.
I would want the movie to take the concept of being based on true events from a detective's personal notes to the full on noir setting though. I think that would be a fun movie, but that's just me.
Seriously though, are those dumb scare tactics of loud dumb sounds going to be in the movie too?
Of course they are, that's all those kind of horror movies are now. Conjuring had that to an extent, but it also just had plain out scary things without relying on LOUD NOISE JUMP SCARE!
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
It looks like HTTYD2 is going to be less funny than the first and more action, which I'm cool with. And I really hope the mom doesn't have some dark secret or something, that it's just a nice happy reunion.

My hope is that she initially wanted to learn/study the dragons and Stoic didn't which led to their separation.
And since Hiccup's been able to swing Stoic around, they manage to reconcile.
It's also possible that she faked her death in such a way that caused Stoic to hate all dragons, and the first movie was about him letting go of that hatred.
Looks like it could go either way, but I think I'll watch it to find out.
Even though they're saving lots on cast costs, I suspect that won't last long. Though, (and even though it's a comedy) I feel like the plot is played out already just from that trailer, so clearly they have some other angle...right....

It's not the first time that FOX tried this premise.

They've said that they're going for something a touch more serious, if not necessarily "dark", which will probably carry through to the third movie.
Actual spoiler for the third movie:
They're going for a sombre thing, with the last scene of the third movie apparently being the main dude, older now, looking out across an empty sea and narrating something along the lines of 'when I was young, there were dragons here...' Gonna kick us right in the Toy Stories.

Well someone's been mowing the grass on that baseball field.
Also really? A moose/deer/horse for a leisurely stroll on our human streets? That shot must really take home to city slickers how gone civilisation is, because they only put it in every post-apocalyptic film.

I'm calling it now: that trailer has mixed scenes from different parts of the movie. Kids are grown up at :25 and 1:41....And papa Russ comes back to save the day with some alien tech that the aliens were all like "hey we expected you guys to exterminate yourself, but since you've proven yourself to be noble savages by mastering interstellar travel, here are some ark ships to get off your doomed planet." WHich as pointed out is contrived bullshit. No alien species that has mastered interstellar travel would ever let the virus known as the human race off this ball of rock to infect other worlds. Put yourself in their shoes...would you?
Which to me is not a good message to send. Happy ending yes, but all of humanity needs a little more of the Pale Blue Dot inscribed on their brain cells...I would much prefer an ending where Russ comes back and says "We didn't find anything....we should have saved what we had...."

There was a leak of one of the drafts of the script that's still floating around that I couldn't resist reading, and I've got to say there was a lot of good stuff there. Undoubtedly the script has been updated since then, but I think it's going to be a pleasant surprise to a lot of people.
A nice spoiler-free thing to look into is the work of one of the film's science consultants, Kip Thorne. He's done significant work theorizing the properties of wormholes and black holes.

Poor white people are the new poor black people, swear to god if I see one more drama set in some kind of hollywood trailer park where violent bad people have good sides I'm going to puke.

The fate of humanity rests in hands of Matthew McConaughey and company.

The end of this actually scared the shit out of me.
I'm not a horror fan, so I'm not familiar with current trends. Are those obnoxiously unnatural loud sounds in the movie too?

Looks like the director did some early episodes of Misfits, which is also a plus: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3407375/?ref_=fn_al_nm_3

Hollywood doesn't care as long as he brings in the money. That said, stupid people do think adults look like teenagers.
