I'm not saying players would win, but basically WOTC has made a guarantee they won't reprint them, and people bank on that when they buy certain cards, expecting them to maintain value. If another company claimed that there would only be "x" of something in the world, and then said "screw it we like money, we will make more." Those who bought under the original terms would be pissed and might have recourse. This is way hairier as WOTC sold these cards forever ago, before there was a reserve list, and so it really only affects the secondary market. It's weird, and I agree it's bad for the game as a whole. At this point though, I would not blame a turbo nerd for going ape shit if WOTC violated their list, basically tanking an investment of hundreds of dollars. I'm peeking and seeing one of the classic "power nine" cards (and arguably one of the less desirable ones) going for $570.00 on ebay.

basically, they made a promise a long time ago when they were not as big as they are now that certain cards would not be reprinted or have functional reprints so that collectors would have certain guarantees of value
it goes beyond just "nerds"
wizards has a functional monopoly on a commodity, and were reprints to occur of certain cards, it would demolish the value which has possible legal ramifications for them, not to mention going back on a promise they made would seriously hurt their credibility
theres a LOT of problems with the list which I don't really want to get into, but yeah

also, technically speaking, cards on the reserce list can and have get premium reprints(very limited edition run reprints with special products)
but that rarely happens

what is complete horseshit, however, is that certain cards aren't on the "technically" on the list because it only extends to cards printed before mercadian masques, but they are still funtionally on it

I fucking hate nearly all the mechanics in it because they were invented infinity years ago and suck, but the guys they have designing cards for it know how to make fun, interesting shit.
I really do not think you are missing much by not playing it, I have found it to be a nugget of horse poo with small nut bits of fun here and there.

Lucian is pretty fun. I decided to play some ranked today after doing my placements like 47 years ago and not really playing it again. First game I won handily as Lucian. The next two I was lane parterns with perhaps the most toxic piece of shit to ever play a moba(besides pip). Lost my promos. Played a game before work. Got back to promos some how. Won the first two with the first game being a pretty mediocre Lucian game and the second was a really fun Leona game.
