The theory that there may have been any communication between the pilots and rebels before they shot it down is one possibility.
But I feel like if such an event happened they would have reported back to ground control almost immediately, so I just think it is just a case of the rebels being dumb and not some grand conspiracy to hide the truth.
I know, I speak in jest.
I think they just see any outsider as an intruder.

Good morning chat!
had to pay for feeling decent on friday so woke up pretty wrekt today at about a 8 on the super scientific hyperbole and a half pain scale.
lucky for me my morning pain quickly drops from horrific to pretty bad within 30 mins of being awake and then by the time my pain meds fully kick in an hour or so later i can be semi functional and have calm and logical conversations w/ lud.
the first 30 mins is all whining, moaning and groaning from the pain, and me repeatedly saying "i'm dying!" :P yay fibro+scoliosis!
He's at that stage where he could walk if he wants, and you'll see him walk while leaning on a wall, but on open ground he deliberately drops to his knees and gets crawling.
