Of course it didn't help that everytime I got hit it was at the exact right angle to flip me off the track or into a fallen shell or similar.

Tried a new kart combination today, sacrificing a bar of Top Speed to gain a bar of Acceleration. I feel like my performance was somehow a little bit more consistent this time, though if you look at the final standings, there doesn't appear to be much change. But today's races were rather brutal... if you weren't in the top two spots. Seems like every race, there was just a huge patch of people from 4th place to 9th place without much spacing. I wonder what caused this apparent difference in pack behavior? Or am I just going a little crazy?

I couldn't figure out how to fire a weapon in the first race. Also for whatever reason it is a pain to hold an item behind me with my thumb and use my middle finger to drift. I definitely should have played a practice round or 2 beforehand.

I was going to practice beforehand but thought going in relatively blind would be more fun.
Was rather pleased with how I did aside from some blatantly botched turns and the occasional slamming right into walls.
Considering my goal was to beat cravipat in one race, and that did happen due to him (I think) having extremely bad luck, I'm happy with how tonight went.
Actually, based on the two time trials I attempted before I entered the tourney, I thought I was going to be lucky to break 40 points. Only having 3 other human players helped with that, I guess.
I do like how my attitude shifted from trying to pick the courses I'd find the easiest to picking the hardest ones about halfway through. The adult beverages I was consuming may have contributed to that.
I am looking forward to being able to drift consistently next week. I did try it more and more as the night went on, with varying success (mostly no success).
The good news is that Mirror Mode didn't mess with me tonight. I was going too slow for that to happen.
Also, I will never stop picking Grumble Volcano. Never!

My replays were fairly boring so I'm offering my worst race of the night instead. Mute City is one of the DLC tracks that still gives me trouble. I love the death from above shot of Dirk2112 towards the end.

I always get nervous that someone is going to make off with my good stuff. If I'm fast enough I can trigger the star before I can accidentally hit myself with any of the other items.
I use the crazy 8 differently depending on how close the next item boxes are. If there is a lot of space, I'll be more methodical. If not, I go full rambo.

START YOUR ENGINES! Week 38 races begin SUNDAY February 22nd from 6 PM to 730 PM CST (7 PM to 830 PM Eastern, 4 PM to 530 PM Pacific, 12 AM to 130 AM GMT). Come get your race on against fellow Penny-Arcaders!
Based on this week's poll results, The settings poll has been retired. I may open it back up if there is demand for it. Going forward, here are the race settings:
WARNING: If you do not have DLC Pack 1 installed, NO KART FOR YOU.
To join the tournament, simply use Search by Code on the Mario Kart 8 tournament menu, and enter the code 6987-9166-8350. You will only need to do this once -- the tournament will be saved in your favorites after you first join it. Once you have joined, you will also have access to this tournament's own Miiverse community.
Points are accumulated based on race performances during tournament hours. Everyone is capped at a maximum of 16 races each Sunday, so you won't be able to cheese your way to the top of the standings by simply doing more races than everyone else. After each tournament, I will post the standings here. This tournament will stay open until everyone gets sick of it and stops playing.
If you join the tournament outside of the designated race hours, you will be able to race against anyone else who is in the tournament lobby at the time, but your points will not count towards the official tournament standings.
There is no friend list requirement for the tournament. You can race against anybody who joins the tournament, whether they are on your friends list or not!
The tournament lasts for 2 hours, and everyone is capped at 16 races. Opponent shuffling is off. CPU opponents have been activated, they will help fill out the races when the room isn't full, and allow you the same point potential in every race.
As always this tournament is open to future changes -- There is a weekly poll for everyone to vote on basic race settings. If you would like to see changes that are not available via the poll, please post your suggestions in this thread.

Nick demonstrates good use of items on Donut Plains, but I'm too far ahead of him to relinquish the win.
Lots of lead changes tend to happen on GBA Mario Circuit, and Mr. Blarney had it when it mattered most.
Clearly, the most logical place to race Karts Only was on Excite Bike. Clearly. William seemed to think so, at least.

@Rehab was late for a plane at Sunshine Airport and wouldn't let any of us get in his way. Nice try with the finish line shell but you missed. Barely.
