lol... speaking of arbitrary restrictions, I think I'm going to abandon beams on my KDF Captain. This time for realsies (maybe). And... I'm going to put turrets on her ships. And set her to chain scatter valley instead of rapid fire (which my other two use). I figure that may make me like playing these sluggish carriers more. IDK....

I don't know, my captain seems perfectly sane. For a Romulan. I mean so I've executed my EMH three times for being a "Tal Shiar Spy", big deal. I turned him back on!

I blame the giant Thalaron generator I'm flying around in. That thing can NOT be OSHA-compliant.

Edit: Really, it's got to be a little like this between us and Command.

I actually have my main Fed captain in outfits that look very much like Imperial uniforms. My Fed tactical captain is in mirror universe Imperial uniforms, of course.

I just went basic Romulan Federation uniform for mine. And then went and made a lovely holiday ensemble just now involving a whole lot of green and mistletoe themed stuff from the holiday vendor. I need a proper Santa hat to really finish it off, though.

Also, I am officially displeased with the Romulan skirt options. You've got "asymmetrical", which is fine I suppose, then "y'all should probably not sit down on anything" short. I'm going for "slightly drunken christmas party" here, not "THAT kind of party"...

  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
I think that only one of my boffs across all three characters wears a skirt, on my KDF captain. And she has sparkly stockings on and thigh high boots! I also like the normal length winter jackets. There's so many of them to get... I wish they were account unlocks, but alas.

“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
  • dporowskidporowski Registered User regular
Oh man, there weren't any high boots available for me apart from $$ unlock; they'd have gone well with the asymmetrical. I did however go with sparkly tights (green) to match the jacket/skirt. Luckily one of the basic Rom boots looked decent. Though now that I think about it they may have been vaguely Ugg so I think I need to go change that. I mean it just seemed more festive than the basic uniform trousers and utility belt, you know?

My boffs don't get to dress up. They're not merry. Also some of their outfit parts cost money and I'm not paying to put that back.

I'd like to be able to copy and past uniform selections to each boff. Would make life a lot easier. Also if instead of stripping the paid gear off the boffs so you could figure out what paid stuff they're wearing so if you really want to buy it would be neat.

    This, so much.
I've spent so much time trying to remember which shade of blue I used or what specific belt I had.

Eventually I just get sick of playing dress up and leave them in whatever uniform they had when they showed up (or whatever they have when I get bored of dress up). I feel a bit like a slacker when I beam into an open area and the other captains all have their away team in matching uniforms though and my murder hobos are wearing mismatched clothes pulled from the nearest "Donations for the needy" bin.

Yeah, my Chief Engineer seems to be wearing a vinyl gimp suit on duty.

Nobody's really willing to ask her why, honestly. She just showed up with it on, and sometimes you just don't get involved... Remans. Least she doesn't complain about the lighting.

On the console they do show the names of the color we've picked so there is some consistency if the palettes are the same. Would like to see the slider values on the head and body customizations too, though I dont change either of those that often on a character (usually for clipping issues).

The roms on my rom fed captain are rocking the team uniform. His fed boffs aren't wearing the same getup though.

All my KDF's boffs dress the same, but it's KDF so that's not hard. Wanted to use the Voth guy with her but you cant customize him at all.

My Fed has her people uniform too, if only because the Brannigan School Captaining requires a strict dress code. Level 51 thanks to doffs. Though I did get her up to the last mission in the Klingon war arc a few days ago.

Our, uh... Interface is so polished that until I managed to fix it, it was setting all my new boffs to "creature" idle stance, regardless of what I had actually picked.

My Fed captain's crew was replaced by dopplegangers at one point. Seriously! One by one they turned into clones of her. Also, you know that DOFF mission where you get someone from the other faction to switch sides and join your fleet? I guess that's why I wasn't surprised when whathisface from the Klingon Empire started contacting her with opportunities to serve the Empire. That's one DOFF mission he's never getting done though. Plus I already have four Klingon captains.

Avehli: Well, we just killed him is more accurate. No, actually he killed himself. I mean, who just sits in front of Hyperonic Endothermic Cold Fusion Flash like that?
Science Cadet: What are we going to do? What are we going to do!
Avehli: You can come over here instead of calling out from over there, for starters. Nobody's noticed yet. Plus it's rude.
Science Cadet: I just talked to him earlier today, he processed my application for Junior Officer Appreciation weekend! He said I had potential!
Avehli: Who thought it was a good idea to even allow a live fire exercise on academy grounds?
Science Cadet: It was a hologram! You didn't have to use that much force!
Avehli: Really? You call yourself a science cadet? Photonics are lethal. I once took out two flotillas at once with a group of photonic battleships.
Science Cadet: What? We're explorers! We're supposed to seek out new life, not destroy it!
Avehli: Right, so let's get back to "exploring", only have to gather 56 more of these particle fragments. Sure looks nice outside. Let's search outside for a bit..

Neato stuff coming to PC. Consoles, too, but probably not immediately since you still don't have Agents of Yesterday or Artifacts, do you?
    Alpha Quadrant expansion
    ov403zf6rf3y.png
Three rows of sectors added to the top of the Alpha Quadrant, with Ferenginar moved one sector up, with the Maxia sector in its place (where Picard lost the Stargazer to a Ferengi marauder)

Some nerdwank in the other sector names:
Berengarius was the site of an important starbase mentioned in DS9, and was scouted by Archer as a potential site for the first in a series of starbases.
Izar is where the crazy ex-Starfleet captain Garth from TOS came from, and Antos is where he set himself up as God over a pre-warp civilization
The Arbazan were a Federation member seen in DS9
Ferasa is a surprise, since it's been speculated to be down by Gorn space, quite a weird location for a KDF client race.
Fesarius is the location of the First Federation, a powerful but reclusive faction that based on TOS is at least somewhat friendly to the Federation
Balancar is home to an economic rival of the Ferengi. Among their exports is squill syrup. Quark tipped off the rest of the Magnificent Ferengi that the Balancar were faking a shortage of squill to screw up the Ferengi markets
Argus is home to the Argus array, a massive subspace telescope
Sauria is home to a major Fed race and the current president of the UFP

So, lots of lore background in this area, though it's pretty Fed heavy. A First Federation appearance could be interesting, but I'm most intrigued by the corner sector, Gon'cra. I don't recognize the name and can't find it on memory alpha or beta.

Kit and module crafting, new R&D school
Currently the Projectiles school has projects for kit frames and kit modules, and a second research project giving 6000 "Kits and Modules XP" instead of projectiles.

New NX model and references in game files to a T6 version
    http://imgur.com/a/mJtEC
Note in particular some flattened areas on the underside of the saucer and where the pylons join the rollbar. There's speculation that these might be connection planes for Doug Drexler's NX refit pitched for Enterprise season 5.

The T6 version will probably end up being buried in some promotion box like the Constitution.

More stuff on Tribble, a new option in the item upgrade screen called "re-engineering."
    ztnu3kl.jpg

Speculation is all over the place, but the smart money seems to be on a way of altering quality mods on equipment.

Seem to be up for a fairly significant season update, considering this is just the trickle stuff before they start adding actual features and content. Probably in January or February - the old mid-season update slot, since Agents of Yesterday came out in a mid-season slot and threw off the schedule they've been keeping since season 5.

Depending on the costs this re-engineering thing seems like a waste. The rumoured expansions to sector place piqued my interest.

Also thinking I may have to get into a fleet, but apparently if I join a fleet there's contribution hard caps to get things, and the missions/assignments to advance my contributions are actually competitive so I'd end up burning doffs and dil to progress? How exactly do the economics of the fleet system and rank work?

Finally done with the Winter ship project. I'm glad to have that out of the way even if they did make it so we only have to run the races with one character now. I took all my saved up dilithium and bought a Vandal for the console, the Kurak, and a Pilot Raptor ship pack. Yay for sales! And for adding more Barbie Dolls ships to play dress up with. I still want the Command BC and Bortas'q ship packs but those will have to wait. I wouldn't mind adding the Negh'tev to my shipyard either just because I think it looks cool.

  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
Xbox users didn't get a sale! But we weren't forgotten, and the timing has changed! Is all they've stated so far:

I bought the command pack last sale, and I leveled the ships on my Rom and KDF chars during the borg alert. Have to say I much prefer fast moving ships for the space dakka. Kind of bummed I burned myself by buying just the Malem because of how their bundles work... because I want the improved scatter volley trait for my KDF char's turret spam.

My goal for her is 4 AP [Pen] turrets, 2 AP [Thrust] turrets, and then two torpedos, but not sure which type yet.

For turrets, what would be a better balance: [Dmg]x2 + [CritD], [CritD]x3 or [Dmg]x3? With Pen being a given for them.

    RATS.

I'd spent the last few days pondering picking up the t6 escort carrier bundle in the sale if I could get enough Dilithium together, so this morning I did a bit of a whipround and it turns out I had enough!

But the sale ended last night.

    Booo!

Oh well, at least I've got enough for a threepack stashed away for the next sale....which might be right around the corner at anniversary time.

I think the most likely way they'll make re-engineering "worth it" is new modifiers that aren't accessible otherwise, or that are only on unique gear and not random drops.

Also, smart money says the next set of reputation/FE rewards will be *this close* to amazing, held back by one or two bafflingly useless modifiers, like cannons with [BOverload].

I got a new computer for Christmas so I can finally get back into the game. The problem is that right now I have to use the Intel Intergrated Graphics 530HD that's part of it until I can get enough cash for a video card. STO fires up fine with it but letting the game set the graphics means that when I stepped out of the turbolift with my new 23rd Century character, this is what I got.

    Y8dXvRl.jpg

I know I probably can't do a lot of tweaking but if anyone can help me perhaps find some wiggle room to make things at least look more normal and less shiny, I'd appreciate it. Here's a screenshot of the settings in the box below.

I'm no expert, but off hand you could try turning down (or turning off if that's an option) the reflection quality setting from high. Alternatively, you could try disabling the post-processing and see how that looks.

So, looks like the new NX does have the refit skin for sure - not just clipping planes, but if you play with customization with the T1 version on Tribble, it's possible to get this:

Two extra sets of floating windows below the hull, right where the two window lines on the secondary hull would be.

So I decided to attempt the Tholian RA on my level 54 Fed Cap. In keeping with her characterization of hastily ranked officer with no experience, she and her fleet were unable to clear even one of the objectives. Like, really took a beating for the duration of the run. Now, having nearly gotten her crew killed, and her ship blown up will she grow as a person? Or, does that require her to destroy the ship and lose half her crew only to get another one at the end just in time for the sequel?

Don't make excuses for her! It started with 3 total, all of us under 60. The other guy dropped after it got to the point of NPC "spawn camping," we broke their siege, got a third person again and even took out a cruiser or something... but to no avail. The Tholians couldn't even be bothered to finish us off. It was her hubris! :P

Elsewhere in the quadrant my KDF char's ship joined up with some Feds and crushed the Tholian resistance with ease. My Rom main was too busy trying to arrange the acquisition of a Heavy Baltim Raider to indulge in his passion. Does the game try to match your party to player level (I played them both back to back)?

Also, is there a staple item that's not keys that one can cheaply acquire and sell to make EC? Key market on xbox is crashing hard; prices were at 1.3m and only dropping further. The downtrend started before the sale. I suppose I could snatch keys up now and wait until later, but I just want the Raider. :|

It pushes you (or should do) to a set level, in the same way as those random red encounters in sector space do. I think it's 50 for red alerts, but it might be 60, who knows.

The inverse happens for them as well, so my characters are scaled down to level 30 or so when I do a sector space thing.
