the BBC was covering the LoL tournament this morning
I'm getting ready to leave work and the TV is all, "League of Legends is an extraordinary popular online game" in a classy British accent, cut to two American nerds chuckling at the camera trying to decide whether or not coming to the LoL world tournament is nerdy or not

A good way to get a little more savvy is to find the art that you have liked in the past and see who they talk about as peers and influences. Do this. And then do this again. And again. Eventually, you will have an idea of what you find interesting and why as well as what you do not.
although in a lot of ways Arkham Horror is even more frustrating than Munchkin. It's longer (though Munchkin is already absurdly long for what it is) and it is pure random chance whether the game will be a frustrating 5 hour slog or over quickly and far too easy or (sometimes) actually be fun.

there is nothing worse than that sinking feeling when you realize the new people at board game night just want to play Munchkin or Fluxx
the beauty here is i don't know if the joke is that those games are too casual or too complicated
for comparison it's difficult to get my friends to upgrade beyond apples to apples or its edgy cousin cards against humanity
but i think i've struck gold with "one night ultimate werewolf", the perfect game that lets me nerd out and overthink things, but also is meaningless and over really quick and you can try and strategize all you like but someone is gonna fuck up your plans anyway so what's the point
wait it sounds like i just described a much shorter version of Diplomacy

Munchkin is kinda ha-ha funny a few times. But it's a shit game.
