This month's DLC has been announced, it's a new weapon pack.

Also, Gage is back, so it turns out he's not in prison or dead like the rumors were suggesting when the Butcher showed up.

    https://youtu.be/inCTR347reI

It releases on Thursday for $5 like most weapon packs. Looks to be adding some new poisoning mechanic and possibly a silent weapon to go in your grenade slot (unless those Shurikens just go in your Secondary Weapon slot or something).

Also people are currently arguing about whether or not the person at the end of the trailer is a new heister or just showing one of the new masks that will inevitably come with this pack. They swear the color of the suit doesn't match any of the current heisters, but I haven't actually memorized all the suit colors so I don't know. If it's a new heister, it'd be the first time one was released alongside a weapon pack instead of a mission pack, and it's odd that they don't appear to have any mention of a character pack being sold (though really, half the new heisters were free updates so I guess it's possible they could just be included free when Thursday's update adds the weapon stuff, but free heisters usually accompany an event so even that would be odd).

I really hope the new Gensec enemy is not a drone as that turret is annoying to take down when you have the wrong set up or it goes south in a stealth run.

Yeah, it's been at least one paid DLC per month for a while now.

September: Gage Assault Pack (Beginning of Month), Hotline Miami (End of Month)
October: No Paid DLC, but a bunch of Crimefest stuff was released for free
    November: Gage Historical Pack
    December: The Diamond / Clover
    January: The Bomb / Dragan
    February: Butcher AK/CAR Mod Pack
March: Butcher BBQ Pack / Overkill Pack (also bunch of free Hype Train stuff)
    April: Butcher Western Pack
May: Alesso Heist (+free Meltdown Heist)
June: Golden Grin Casino / Sokol
    July: Gage Ninja Pack
idk man will we ever get fbi files/infamy 2.0 tweaks/new gensec enemy/probably 10 more things I don't remember right now?

They actually just posted yesterday that details about release of the secret item from the limited Completely Overkill Pack, Safehouse Customization, the GenSec enemy, and the FBI files will be revealed next month (note: "details about their release," who knows when they will actually be released). Sadly, they did not mention Infamy 2.0 updates in this.

Also, next month is also the two year anniversary of the game, so there will probably be a free update of some kind. Last time it was just a melee weapon though. Presumably we'll start hearing details about a 2015 Crimefest soon as well.

They've also strongly hinted that the character at the end of the Gage Ninja Pack trailer is a new heister, but no word on how they will be made available (and if it will be with tomorrow's update, or if their appearance in the trailer is just a tease for a later update).

I kind of hate the SWAT Turret, especially since they still haven't fixed your teammate Bots to not get stuck in a constant death loop when they get targeted by one. They're main purpose is apparently to deny certain paths to you as you should just avoid them, but this wasn't thought out very well in a lot of cases (and makes no sense in Bank Heist because there are two of them so you are screwed no matter where the escape van is). Deploying an ECM will make all turrets on the map fight with you for the duration, however.

Fortunately, the Gensec enemy is presumably not mechanical, because one of the reasons they have given for it's delay is that it apparently requires a lot of voice work. What that means, nobody is quite sure. Some have suggested some sort of Negotiator enemy, but I'm not sure how that would work.

yeah well we ALREADY had a "community update" post by Almir about the release of pending stuff. Know what it said?

    "We're working on it."

Know what the August update will say?

Me and my friend are actually looking into starting the PS4 version of the game. It's not as up to date as PC, but they are supposed to update regularly, and the chat is guaranteed to work, and a handful of missions won't boot my friend to the desktop.

The DLC and latest update are apparently out. The mask the mystery person was wearing at the end of the trailer was not in the pack, so it's almost certainly an upcoming new heister. New achievements look fairly simple (all requiring weapons from the DLC of course).

The update had a rather extensive list of changes.

    Some highlights include:
    • Bunch of bug fixes (especially in Golden Grin Casino)
    • Additional guards added to Golden Grin on Overkill and Deathwish (damn, I knew I should have done the Deathwish achievement last night, now it'll be a bit more difficult to stealth).
    • Reduced the weight of the Dentist's Loot in Golden Grin (but didn't fix it's value? Unless it's an unlisted change. Hopefully they fixed the XP as well.)
    • "Fixed an issue where players couldn’t puncture the basketballs" (uh...okay...)
    • Reduced the weight of scroll artifacts in the Diamond (good, their previous weight didn't really make sense)
    • Diamond Store: "Fixed an inconsistency issue with the difficulties" (this almost certainly means they fixed the bug with the outside door leading to the security room, which means it's not going to spawn much--or at all for Deathwish--when playing on higher difficulties, making this one a bit harder to stealth)
    • They fixed the ATM door in Four Stores so you can't hide behind it anymore for a super easy completion of the level (only took them two years to fix this, I guess?). They also mentioned fixing other hiding spots in other maps but I'm not as familiar with them.
    • You can now earn achievements in Offline mode and they will sync the next time you go online.
    • The Tab menu will now show you the name of the current song playing.

Diamond Store was already easier to ECM than stealth, this just fucks over single player. They seem to do that a lot.

I looked it up in the Long Guide, and apparently the door was supposed to spawn like this on Diamond Store:

    *Normal: 100%
    *Hard/Very Hard: 75%
    *Overkill/Deathwish: 50%

(which is better than the 100/75/50/25/0 that I was misremembering)

However, on all difficulties except Hard it was accidentally adding to the chance to spawn instead of subtracting, resulting in it just always being there except for 25% of the time on Hard difficulty.

So assuming that they didn't change the values, then I guess it only has a 50% chance of making things difficult for a solo stealth player.

Today is the two year anniversary of the game. They've released a small update that adds a free Throwing Card weapon, weaker than the Shuriken and with no Poison effect, but you get 21 of them (so now everyone has a throwable weapon without needing to buy DLC, and it's one that works in Stealth on top of that).

The patch also does some tweaking to Stealth by reducing the detection range of drills, body bags, loot bags, corpses, etc.

Haven't heard if there will be a sale or not, I think the Steam store usually updates in about 45 minutes or so.

HERE is the Annoucement with the patch notes and such.

They also released a short video with the following information:

*A Perk Deck rebalancing is coming soon (hopefully Rogue and Grinder don't get nerfed into the ground).
*The GenSec Enemy and FBI Files will both be released on September 24th, and they are somehow linked together.
*The Secret Reward from the Completely Overkill Pack will be released in October during Crimefest '15.
*Safehouse Customization will be coming in the Spring.

    Some stuff happening in this:

    overkillsoftware.com/games/perksupdate/
Motherfucking Rogue down 5% dodge. Most others are getting significant buffs though ...except Hitman, still shit. Oh, and they nerfed rebalanced Grinder somewhat?
Edit: The babbling I'm seeing about this says armor's generally getting a pretty sweet deal out of it, and Crook being the new dodge perk with its major armor buffs?

Also, Simon Viklund has jumped ship (18th aug). But he's saying something about continuing to work on PD2 as a freelancer? Trying to be optimistic here...

But Simon also did a twitter/periscope stream thingy yesterday, where he was recording lines with Pete Gold/Hoxton (expired now though) where he kinda was saying that they were re-recording lines from PDTH? Dunno, but there's some speculation about Ovk bringing the old heists from the first game into PD2. That would certainly be very welcome if so, and is a thing I'm honestly baffled haven't happened sooner.

He's going to be a freelancer rather than being a full-time employee of Overkill. If he hadn't been obviously open to still composing music for PD2 I might wonder about the terms he's leaving under, but it seems to be a move for himself to be able to compose more music instead of just focusing solely on games.

Surprised the Perk Deck Rebalance is already out, they just recently announced it and I thought they said they were going to beta test it?

Simon Viklund also voices Bain, who is kind of integral to every heist in the game, so hopefully he's still able to come in often enough to record lines when they need him (and Overkill is willing to hire him as a freelancer). Granted, they have experimented a little with some other characters giving the Heist Day Overview (ie. Hoxton for Day 2 of Hoxton Breakout, or Hoxton Revenge) or talking to you during the heist (ie. Vlad in Meltdown).

There have been some files in the game for a long time hinting at PD1 heists being ported over, but Overkill keeps denying it (claiming they'd rather use their resources developing brand new heists). Recently files related to two of those heists were actually updated (I think it was Undercover and No Mercy). However, the new voice recordings may be unrelated as a few months ago Simon Viklund acknowledged that fans wanted more of the heisters talking during heists like they did in PD1, and even had a thread asking for line suggestions for each character. So it's possible they could be adding something like that (which could also stand in for not having Bain talk during heists as much).

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if some PD1 heists make the transition during Crimefest this year. Alternatively, we may just be revisiting the location of Undercover for a new heist, as it apparently has connections to that fabled "Payday Secret" somehow.

The way Payday 2 updates is annoying. It apparently copies the entire game and then applies the update to that and verifies that it went smoothly and then deletes the old version. There's apparently a reason they do it this way, but I don't remember what.

Now you can select who the voice of Crimenet is, with the new Bain Replacement DLC!

Would you like Vlad to be in charge? What about the Butcher? The Dentist?

But why stop there? Why not have your heist over seen by Adult Swim's Rick and Morty?

That's a little sooner than I was expecting, though I think this will be the first time a paid Heister will be available without also selling a heist (unless they're planning on revealing a heist DLC on Tuesday for their 3-day reveal things).

Also, massive sale on PD1 and 2 stuff right now, and free weekend for those who don't own it.

In other news, apparently a recent patch accidentally included a bunch of new strings in it. These strings were seemingly confirmed today since they talked about Jiro and his name wasn't revealed until this trailer went up. Of note, a lot of these strings directly pertain to multiple PD1 heists (again adding evidence that they're being ported soon) along with a couple of brand new heists (Flying to LA and stealing a Back to the Future Delorean replica for the Elephant, and apparently stealing the Hope Diamond from the Smithsonian for the Dentist).

Granted, these strings could have been put there to mislead dataminers, or they could represent an early stage of development and will get changed before release (for example, Meltdown at one point had voice files leaked indicating that it was going to be a job for the Butcher where you steal servers and have to cut specific wires and such, but by the time it was released it was stealing nukes for Vlad).

Edit: Apparently the Hope Diamond one may be strings left over from an early version of "The Diamond." There are also references to a Yacht heist, a Goat Simulator heist, akimbo shotguns, and more. No idea how much is scrapped data, false data, or early versions of planned stuff.

I think the tradeoff on grinder is that you have to be suiting to get it, meaning that you're gonna be spending a lot of time needing that health regen. Unless the tooltip is off and that shit works in armor.

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Eh, even then Risen and one of our other friends were pretty much main tanking overkill assault waves while I did the objectives and coming out of it on max health.

Like, the thing that gets me is it's one of the strongest regen effects in the game (at least, off the top of my head) and the trigger cost for it is... spray some bullets at the police. At any range, causing any damage at all.

From what I heard, Grinder was balanced around the idea of being a viable choice for Death Wish difficulty.

As a result, it's a bit overpowered for everything below that.

I mean, sure but Deathwish is so extreme it creates a whole bunch of other balance issues (namely that grenades and snipers bring unique utility that make them way better than alot of other options weapon wise) so I think saying something should be balanced for it is a little pointless. It'd be like if Bioware universally buffed every class in Mass Effect 3 so they could do platinum.

...I don't see any reason that all perk decks shouldn't be viable (or that all classes shouldn't be viable in ME3 for that matter).

Anyways, Update 75 is out along with the new character pack.

Included in this update, they apparently fixed some things with the new XP system and a lot of stealth heists got their XP increased (including Shadow Raid). Also, most of the heists that had stupid XP requirements in regards to loot (ie. Every 3 bags, or every 6 bags or whatever) now just do the smart thing and give you XP for each individual bag.

Also, they apparently added a new animation for the Katana...you can decapitate Cloakers.

Lastly, on the main menu a mysterious red safe has appeared behind your character...for some players. Not everyone. Overkill is being coy about it's purpose. (Edit: People are saying that it's only showing up for people who own the limited-time Completely Overkill Pack, so it's probably related to the Secret Item's release next month).

PaydayCon is also supposed to be happening this weekend in Seattle, somewhere near PAX. If you're nearby it's free to attend, but I think they wanted a head's up on Facebook or something so they'd have an idea about how many are coming. I think I heard that the actors for Dallas, Houston, Hoxton, and Vlad are all going to be there. No idea what else is going on.

Because Deathwish is designed to be the dumb, game breaking difficulty and balancing certain concepts (such as health regen) for it completely destroys lower difficulties. Like I've being using gambler and muscle the past few days and waltzing through deathwish with effectively infinite health and both those perk trees are far, far weaker than grinder. Which isn't really cool in anyway shape or form.

New character looks interesting. I'm assuming the final perks wording means that all the previous perks kick in at 50% ('all beserker effects' vs 'the beserker skill' otherwise it'd be kinda underwhelming.

  • Options
    LarsLars Registered User regular
I think I'm looking at things from the opposite angle. In my point of view, Death Wish is the endgame, so that's what thing should be balanced for, because all perk decks should be a viable choice for the endgame (or at least as many as Overkill can reliably get there). It'd be terrible if Death Wish was still stuck with "Full Dodge Build with Rogue, Techforcer+Armorer, or GTFO." And if as a result people can be overpowered in the lower difficulties...who cares? Let them have fun with it.

That said, I don't think they've balanced all the perk decks yet (looking at you Hitman...and now possibly Jiro's as well).

However, there is still a problem with the difficulties: Hard & Very Hard are basically useless. If you can do either of them, you can pretty much do Overkill difficulty. Honestly, they should probably rebalance things so Normal is easier, Hard is the old Normal, Very Hard is the old Overkill, and Overkill is now more of a midpoint between old Overkill and Death Wish so it's not such a large jump from one to the other.

  • Options
Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
The difficulties are bad. Saying 'who cares about lower difficulties' when proposing balance changes is going to make them even worse. Right now Grinder makes every difficulty that isn't deathwish a joke. That's not okay and I'd rather have less things viable at the tip top of play (especially when it's weird stuff that breaks the rules of how the game used to work like regening health) than just make the game boring if a single guy is playing grinder with aced inspire. Plus right now the meta people are leaning into on DW is mostly grinder or techforcer with infiltrator. Shockingly when people want to min max they'll do that.

Like, the fundamental issue is probably that grinder is a really badly designed perk deck anyway. It must have suit only because otherwise it'd be completely broken and the regen is more or less 100% uptime because of it's trigger. I think it'd work much better if the effect was based on killing/assisting in the kill of a special and was a larger chunk of your health. That way it's more conditional and easier to balance (and slightly auto balances based on difficulty due to the lower amount of specials on OVK).

As it stands it's just a broken perk that creates a win more state. You never have to stop shooting because armour doesn't matter outside of giving you an armour gate vs bulldozers and your health regen props you up indefinitely because the trigger condition combined with the strength of it is super dumb.
